Navigation Computers

The term navigation computers is used across the galaxy to refer to the set of components, pieces, systems, software and consumables used for the calculations and processes related to travel across the galaxy.   Navigation computers often rely on Cartes, as well as other similar information packets, to accurately calculate routes through the galaxy, specially when travelling via the Circumspace. This is due to the interferences that large gravitational fields can introduce into interstellar voyages and routing, being capable of throw ships into planets or stars with ease due to the extreme forces involved in the process.   The technology has long been riddled with an air of mystery and a severe lack of good information sources for its study, being long regarded as a technology monopolized by the Bahn; short, orange-skinned, humanoids usually with black or brown hair on their heads, well known across the galaxy for owning a vast amount of the galaxy's interplanetary transport systems. They have also made themselves a name in times of war for being very brilliant mechanics, often resorting to unusual practices to undergo reparations, which most of the time include the usage of parts not intended to be used for the purpose they are made to fit.   It is because of these reasons that, under normal circumstances, if a ship was noted to have sustained damage to its navigation computers, or some of the related equipment was deemed unqualified for flight, the crew or owner of the craft would have to resort to buying or leasing new compatible equipment.

Usage and restrictions

Many authocracies throughout the galaxy's history have tried banning navigational computers as a way to limit freedom of movement across systems, however, it is to be noted all these attempts have failed, mainly, due to the Bahn's persistence on keeping their most valuable mercantile asset on the markets; the navigation computers.
