Extrorus

Extrorus is a species of long algae characterized by redish-orange apple-sized fruits that float when detached. It is native from Adamio , but specimens have been found in places like Almoir.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The plant has long and thin floating branches, that can be up to two meters long.

Genetics and Reproduction

Its fruits are covered in a strong barrier that keeps in the content, which is mostly water, but also has the seeds inside. Every cicle (32 days) the fruits are detatched. Because of the content, the fruit slowly floats up and moves with the waves until eventually the cover breaks because of a slight hit or wave, releasing its content. The seeds then reach the bottom of the sea and use a little reservoir that they have to germinate and from there, generate roots and grow. Between 3 and 5 cicles later, if the seed succeded, the plant should be big enough to start to generate its own fruits.

Growth Rate & Stages

A plant can reach a growing speed of 1cm a day.

Ecology and Habitats

Its favourite habitat is deep underwater, where volcanic activity warms the water. Its optimal water temperature is 42 degrees Celsius.

Biological Cycle

As it is a deep underwater species, its cycle relies on time. Every 32 days approx. (depends on the planet) all its fruits are released to deposit seeds.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Its fruit juice has two toxines, but if it´s boiled a bit, the effect from the toxines dissapears and it can be used as a drinkable antibiotic. It is not the most effective one, but it works in case of emergency.
