Brewer's Guild
For many decades, the brewers' trade suffered from high grain prices, and the occupation fell to near-extinct numbers: A register from 870 ME shows there were only sixteen freeholder brewer's in all of Dayne-on-the-Loch. This was in part due to an edict passed by the Count of Swarester County that limited the number of brewers to 20, but permitted that widows might continue in the trade without a fee unless they remarried. This all changed in 894, when the Count permitted the incorporation of all extant brewers with a small fee of two silver coins each, which was to be donated to The University of Rose and Violet on the Loch. The dean of the University at the time chose to donate this small token back to the newly formed Brewer's Guild in exchange for discounted rates for the university.
Over the last century the Brewer's guild has thrived by its association with the university, which makes up the bulk of its business even in gross quantity alone.
