Tia'shain

Tia'shain is a prominent city in Hocier along the banks of The Great Zulgasen River. The city serves as the capital of The Kingdom Of Palarastold and a crucial center of trade on the continent thanks to its position along The Zulgasen, halfway between lands in the north and south. In its capacity as a caravan hub, travelers often nicknamed Tia'shain "The Merchant City" for how money drives all aspects of the city's governance and how the wealth of the city props up the near-entirety of The Kingdom Of Palarastold.

Industry & Trade

Tia'shain is not large, with a population of only 55,00, it is small compared to other cities, comprised of a few thousand mudbrick buildings and colder caverns beneath it. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in density; in the city, there are at least a dozen great markets, pedaling all manner of wears from the north and south. And in the wider kingdom, people say one can buy anything for the right price; from foreign drugs to ancient relics, from rare herbs to exotic animals, all are within the reach of money in the merchant city of Tia'shain.

Districts

In its entirety, the city is split into three wards; The Royal Ward, The Merchants Ward, and The Peasants Ward.   The slimmest ward, The Royal Ward, lies in the city center and is by far the most extravagant; being home to Great Palace and all official buildings, it stands as the heart of government and rule. In the ward, lush trees line the walkways, creating a grand display of wealth and prestige in the water-scarce world of the Hocierian desert.   The most famous ward of the city is The Merchant Ward, a sprawl of shops, squares, and temples containing every commodity under the sun. Here, cobbled streets run through neat sandstone buildings and open into vast courtyards with men and women standing on platforms barking out products and prices and meager sellers sitting beneath canopies trying to sell their wears. This ward is the chaotic, clamoring place for which Palarastold is known.   The city's largest ward is the Peasants Ward, a meager area of slums and crude, mudbrick houses, lining the maze-like streets, home to the city's poorest citizens. In these dwellings, crime runs rampant, as famine and disease force people into poverty, leaving them with little choice but to turn to crime to survive, creating a dangerous climate.
