Funerals and the Releasing

"Oh, Kerro, goddess of fate and night, On this comet's journey, radiant and bright. As it streaks across the celestial height, We release the souls, bathed in your light.   To you, we entrust the departed's rest, In your loving embrace, they are blessed. In the golden-purple stardust's quest, Life's circle renewed, ye faith invest.   For the stardust's gift, abundant and rare, We express our thanks in humble prayer. Fertility bestowed, beyond compare, In Kerro's grace, we flourish, aware.   So, high priest, as we release them high, To the comet's tail, where they'll lie, In Kerro's arms, they shall not die, But join the cycle, in the cosmic sky."   Elegy of the Release

Execution

When someone dies during a year, their bodies are mummified by the monks of the Supplicants of Fate's Embrace. A funeral is held for the family and friends of the deceased, celebrating their life and mourning their passing. All of the bodies are stored and cared for in the Kerropolis until the last week of the year. In that week, the mummies are lain out on the plaza of the Kerropolis for mourners to say their final goodbyes to their families. When the comet Ushtrenom reaches the designated position in the hollow of the Tower of Kerropolis, the words are spoken and the caskets of the dead sail into the firmament and into the path of the comet, where they are drawn to the surface of Ushtrenom and interred.   As Ushtrenom passes over, its tail falls to the city where it is gathered and given to apothecaries for medicine and to farmers to fertilize their soil.

Participants

Monks in the service of Kerro perform the embalming and mummification, while priests of Kerro oversee the funerals and arranging the bodies on the plaza for the Releasing. The Silverhand oversees the preparations and the High Priest of Kerro performs the final elegy of the Releasing.
