Dragon
"I've known the current Dragon for about six years, now. I met his predecessor once and I could swear they're the same person. Guess the job attracts a certain... flair."
~Astral Navigatrix Sallerida Valiant
Qualifications
A Zillamarine Dragon is expected to exemplify at the highest purity the concepts of bravery, honor, and decisiveness.
Appointment
While technically the only actual requirement is a nomination by the Doghe and confirmation by the Aristopian Chamber, there has never been a Dragon that wasn't an accomplished general and decorated combat veteran.
Duties
The Dragon is expected to inspire loyalty and enthusiasm in his men, and serve as an example. He is also the public face of the Zilla Marines, representing them as a group to citizens of Zilla and beyond.
Responsibilities
The Dragon of the Zilla Marines decides on the grand strategems of the outfit, sets policy, and represents their interests in the Aristopian Chamber. They also decide who will represent them to the Chamber of the Freemans' Voice.
Benefits
The Dragon traditionally lives on the ZMS Astralily, flagship of the small Zilla Marine fleet. The Dragon is not technically the captain of this ship, but he does make all of the decisions about its voyages and missions. Most of the time, it's docked just off the Mandible. Additionally, the Dragon has a designated room at the Fate's Accomplice Tavern, and traditionally gets free drinks.
The Dragon receives a lifetime pension determined by the Chamber of the Freemans' Voice after their retirement ceremony.
Accoutrements & Equipment
The Dragon wears an instantly recognizable tunic with vibrant blue scales, with a blue cape lined with gold filigree. A manilla feathered cap with a blue plume is worn as a cover, but never indoors. The Dragon is also gifted an enchanted cutlass.
The Dragon passes down the Swagger Stick of the Dragon at their retirement ceremony to their replacement. In the event of the previous Dragon dying rather than retiring, the stick is given to whatever officer assumed their command and gifted by them to the next Dragon. The Zilla Marines have never left the Swagger Stick of the Dragon in the clutches of an enemy, and attempting to steal it is the surest way to feel the full fury of the Zilla Marines.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Dragons serve at the pleasure of the Doghe. Traditionally, they are given an opportunity to retire rather than actually being fired, but should the Doghe wish, then they can be immediately terminated for no cause. Other than that, a majority vote of both chambers of the Supreme Council of Zilla can remove them.
