Church of Undying Faith

Overview

The official church of the city. They represent the One True God’s will on earth. As with any church, there are both compassionate and corrupt clergymen. They preach that the only way to salvation is to worship the One True God and forsake all other faiths. Magic and practices that are not deemed beneficial to the church and deemed heretical and punishable. The poor rely on the protection of the church as the governing bodies of the spirecity provide no support to the undercity. They publicly denounce the “unholy” union of beast and blood by the Black Cloaks, but rely upon their services for suppressing monsters.

Faith

In the recent century there has been a shift from a pantheon of gods to the One True God, or Vashta the All-Father. Almost all races prescribe to this umbrella religion which preaches piousness, compassion and pacifism though few devotees embody all these ideals. Those who worship the Old Gods must do so in secret for fear of being labeled a witch or a member of the Coven of Endor. The Black Cloaks are seen as a necessary evil even though their existence goes against the church’s beliefs, and are allowed to coexist during these trying times.   Clergy members and those of exceptional devotion and means will regularly partake in alms-giving in which they will carry a single coin held out in front of them while wearing the ceremonial blind fold. Those in need may take the coin without reproach, but those who take the coin when they don't need it (ie stealing or greed) are said to face divine retribution.

Clergy

Those who are formally indoctrinated into service for the church are meant to be pillars of the community. In exchange for a salary they are clothed, house and fed by the church for as long as they remain in service, which is meant to be a lifetime barring any abnormalities. Marriage and children are welcome while in service, but all family members must be part of the church.

Attire

The sigil of worship is a small golden ring symbolizing the One True God's cycle of labor and creation. Members of the clergy wear a gauze blindfold that obscures their vision when in public as to dissuade prejudice. The blindfold may be marked with a red circle denoting a higher place in the church, or a red eye to symbolize the watchful eye of God guiding their flock and witnessing their actions.
