Lay of Lunara

The Lay of Lunara is a plague that struck all Elf kind late in the Quiet Age. For centuries Elves had extremely short lives, less than 30 years on average, and passed the disease off to their children. All the Elves could do to hold on was to breed as soon as they came of age, and to have enough children to keep their race alive. The end of the plague brought about the Age of Echos, as Elves were finally immortal again.

Transmission & Vectors

No one knows how the plague started. All that is known is that eventually it affected all elfkind, and was passed off to their children. It seemed to take a couple of decades before it would kick in and kill you, but there was no avoiding it.

Symptoms

Sudden and rapid aging, appearing to take an Elf from a human-youthful appearance of 20 to 100 within a year. This aging process brought with it all the aches and pains and illness of old-age, until the afflicted eventually succumbed to something, usually heart-failure.

Treatment

First Conductor Veris, the first ruler of the High Elves of New Crescendo, and the man responsible for levitating Orchestria, figured out how to cure the plague, but it required him to absorb the plague from the entire world, and killed him. This didn't save anyone currently alive, but it ensured they would no longer pass the disease down to their children.
