Long*

On the far end of the Chord, Long* is a sparsely inhabited star with a pronounced wobble. The Alpha planet, Snowdrift, is the only inner planet, and it has a wildly elliptical orbit. The planet is known for its short, hot summers, followed by brutally cold winters. The system has three massive outer planets. One is, surprisingly, rocky. Long Beta is a rocky Pelagic super-terra, from which rocketry can never escape. The other two are massive gas giants with near-synchronous orbits, tugging on their home star, and accounting for its extreme wobble.

Ecosystem

The flora and fauna of Snowdrift, the single habitable planet in Long*, is one of extremes. Given the planet's highly elliptical orbit, its is subject to extreme seasonal differences. In particular, the planet suffers long, cruel winters.
