Marked By Death

Encountering a caretaker for the Heralds of Dust, Danu and Owen find that they have been marked with a black rune on the inside of their right wrist. This caretaker, Sidech Voril, explains that they were dead, he washed their corpses himself, and he has no idea why or how they are alive. He tries to ignore them and as he sits down at his desk, Danu and Owen awaken in a makeshift camp in the wilderness outside of Red Larch, in the Dessarin Valley, on Toril.
