Ten days into their caravan journey to Waterdeep, Nell and Owen have a conversation about the mark on Owen and Danu's wrists. Having noticed Owen not sleeping or having himself put to sleep with a
sleep spell, Nell became curious and broached the subject after Creed and Danu had fallen asleep.
Owen said that sleep had been something difficult to come by after his near death experience. His lack of faith in any gods began to frighten him, knowing that his soul did not just go to some oblivion but instead ended up on another plane of existence. This lack of faith was brought about by being an orphan and having to make his own way in life, without the help of anyone, including the gods.
Nell was unsure how to proceed after this revelation and kept many questions unspoken.
Owen did reveal that he feels like he is being watched, but the sensation is strange, because it feels like it is coming from above him. This struck Nell as extremely weird and as she thought that she looked up to see a large raven looking down at them. Startled, she fell back on her hands. The raven croaked at her and the vanished with a audible "poof," and a single downy, black feather floated to the ground then rolled in on itself and was gone with another "poof."
Nell grabbed Owen's wrist and cast a spell of
detect magic. This spell revealed a purple glow and the aura of necromantic magics. At the same time, she noticed that same glow coming from Danu's wrist where she lay asleep under their wagon.
