The Tabaxi Nomads

The Nomadic Tribes of the Tabaxi are groups of Tabaxi who travel Vectrus in routine patterns based on seasons and tradition. The nomads comprise most of the Tabaxi population but are congregated based on tribes. Tribes come together for special occasions and holidays but do not cross paths often; otherwise, they opt to stay with their kin.

Structure

The Tabaxi Nomads are constructed on a tribal basis. These clan-like entities are unique and self-sufficient, not requiring other tribes to sustain themselves.

Pathkeeper

The Keeper of the Path is the title given to the leader of the individual tribe. Often this is an heirloom title, granted from a father or mother to their child, who is born and raised to be the next Pathkeeper. They guide the tribe’s migration routes based on tradition, seasons, and omens. In addition, they act as the spiritual leader, interpreting divine or natural signs. Less often, they mediate disputes within the tribe and represent the tribe in inter-tribal councils. Finally, they safeguard the tribe's cultural heritage and relics.

Trailwardens

Warriors and protectors of the tribe, the Wardens of the Trail, act as scouts who patrol and secure the tribe's routes during migration. During times of conflict, these Wardens also act as soldiers. Often, though, they scout ahead for resources, hazards, and potential campsites for the tribe. In their role, they report directly to the Pathkeeper.

Lorekeeper

The Keeper of Lore is the historian and archivist who caretakes the passage of time for the tribe. Their role is to preserve and pass down the oral and written histories of the individual tribe and tales from other tribes. They spend much of their time with the younger generations, mentoring on heritage, traditions, and values. Likewise, they serve as a repository of songs, stories, and myths or folklore for their tribe.

Hearthkeeper

Keeper of the Hearth is a nomad who assists with organizing daily life within the tribe. Many Hearthkeepers exist to assist in this regard, distributing food and setting up camp, but also providing assistance to the health and well-being of tribe members, with many trained in natural, arcane, and divine healing. They also work closely in tandem with the Lorekeeper, assisting in gatherings, festivals, holidays, and other special events.

Seekers

One Who Seeks, Speaks, or simply Seekers are diplomatic specialists and explorers who venture ahead and outside the tribe's known routes to establish new connections or find resources. They will also act as envoys to other tribes or external groups, bringing news, trade opportunities, or warnings back to the Pathkeeper. They work with hearthkeepers to integrate knowledge and items brought back from their travels.   In the world outside of the tribes, Seekers are those most often seen in everyday society. They are typically young adult Tabaxi on their first pilgrimage outside the tribe, which is a traditional right of passage into adulthood. All Tabaxi of every tribe will most likely serve as Seekers in their young adult lives.

Apprentices

The tradition of learning and assisting the significant roles of the tribe falls to the apprentices, who are commonly assigned if they are not given a role by birthright.

Elder's Council

The final informal role of Elder is presented to those who serve as seniority to the individual roles above, potentially including retired Pathkeepers. They act as advisors and ceremonies leaders, guiding and assisting current Pathkeepers.

Inter-Tribal Structure

When tribes convene, a temporary council forms to coordinate interactions. This council often includes an Elected High Pathkeeper and Speakers for the individual roles who form a council of advisors to the High Pathkeeper and other present Pathkeepers.

Foreign Relations

The Nomadic Tribes are a global community that often traverse state borders during migrations. As such, each nation has differing opinions and approaches to the Tabaxi Nomads.

The Demagan Empire

The Demagans tolerate the Tabaxi to ensure that they have freedom of movement but are not given any quarter or assistance. Often, the Tabaxi are looked down upon in Demaga. Despite their heavy traditions in some regions, like the Southern Wetlands, the tribes tend to steer clear of Demaga due to the prejudice they receive.

The Ereban Empire

The Erebans are more welcoming to the Tabaxi than their neighbors and are often accommodating to them in their travels by providing some state-sponsored quarter and assistance as needed.

The Kingdom of Alterra

Alterra is the most accepting of the Nomadic tribes, granting their individual tribes a unique nomadic reservation status to whatever land they occupy at the time, given the land is returned to Alterra and its citizens in the manner in which it was lent. Here, they have the most freedom of movement and autonomy compared to the other nations.

The Concordia of Illyria

The Concord is somewhat accepting, though due to the more 'free market' nature of the oceananic region, they are often stereotyped as thieves and welfarists. As such, they are tolerated, but to a more moderate degree compared to Demaga.
