Sea serpents

Sea serpents are a type of lesser Dragons found in oceans and lakes.
They are the true rulers of the sea, even more so than true dragons, for they are fully adapted to this environment.

Description

Sea-serpents are entirely water-based dragons, incapable of flight or movement on land. They have no limbs at all, being entirely serpentine in shape. However they are true masters of the oceans and are superior even to true dragons in their domain. They are just as intelligent as true dragons and can even use magic, though they do not possess the ability to speak.

Life cycle

Sea-serpents grow to the same or even greater size than true dragons. They grow up at the same rates and can live comparable lifespans.

Hunting strategy

Sea serpents are exclusively found in large bodies of waters such as deep lakes and oceans. While in the water they are able to disengage at will and can use high-pressure blasts of water and their magic to great effect from a distance. In closer range they can easily use their brute strength to sink ships and tear humans to pieces or simply drag them underwater to drown them.
The best way to fight and kill a sea-serpent would be to remove it from its watery environment; something that is very difficult to achieve.
It is thus frankly easier to fight their environment than to fight them; to dam off a river that supplies water to a lake to make it dry up, to dump poison into the ocean or otherwise make the place so inhospitable and unpleasant that the sea-serpent either leaves or dies.

Appearance

Sea-serpents posess long, sinuous bodies suited perfectly to swimming rapidly through water. They are ususally of a blue colour, though green or red are not uncommon.
