Rockshrooms
Rockshrooms, also called "Glowshrooms" are a magical fungus that is the foundation of the food-chain of the subterranean ecosystem on many realms.
The mushroom needs the right temperatures, minerals and moisture in order to survive. Its roots dissolve and absorb solid rock particules and use it to grow. The process is not entirely understood, but the fluids inside of rockshrooms are prized by alchemists for their properties.
Finally rockshrooms spread by releasing bursts of spores that can be further spread by passing animals or streams of water.
Description:
This innocuous looking mushroom is actually a highly magical fungus. It is one of the primary sources of nutrients to many subterranean ecosystems.
Light
Rockshrooms emit light as they reach maturity and begin producing spores. While not very bright, this light is sufficient for a variety of subterranean plants to survive near rockshrooms. Insects and other creatures then feed off those plants and the rockshrooms to create small contained eco-systems far away from life-granting sunlight.Nutrition
Rockshrooms are inedible and mildly poisonous to most creatures. However there are some that have adapted to the underground by being able to live off rockshrooms with no issue. Notable examples include tunneler worms and the Dvuergr.Appearance
Rock-shrooms are shades of grey or white if exposed to light, though in darkness they emit a faint blue glow.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
