Nephilim

Rarity: Very Rare (1 per 1000)

Nephilim are humans that have in their blood an innate link to the celestial beings of the multiverse. This link comes about often due to an infusion of celestial energy from a blessing or from some divine blood in their parentage.

In most cases, a nephilim's celestial features are obvious from the moment of birth and they are raised since childhood with heavy expectations. In other cases, nephilim may grow up within human settlements, thinking themselves normal until their celestial heritage and powers manifest for the first time. No matter their origin, when their celestial heritage comes to light they are usually treated differently from those around them and their life often becomes one of obligation and expectations often too high to meet.
People are often very proud to have a nephilim in the family and will expect great things from a person infused with celestial power.

The Pressure of High Expectations
Nephilim have an inherent strong bend towards empathy for others and they often can't help themselves but rush to aid others when they need it. This, and the knowledge of their celestial heritage often leads the people of Haven to expect a nephilim to be their savior, to help them in their time of need and smite evil wherever it may hide, heedless of the danger. They often like to forget that nephilim are just as mortal and fallible as them. When a nephilim is unable or unwilling to aid, the people's mood can turn sour quickly.

Pursued by Darkness
Evil spirits also take a perverse glee in torturing and killing nephilim due to the divine spark within their souls. Many evil beings, no matter their nature, would love nothing more than to find out a nephilim is nearby. Some nephilim deliberately spread their name to attract and destroy such spirits, others avoid such due to the fear of them or others near them getting hurt.

Divine Pawns
Finally, the churches of the gods like to bring Nephilim within their sphere of influence, to bolster their own reputation. It speaks well of a local church if they have a person with celestial blood working there after all. While the churches do protect their charges, not all nephilim desire to work for the church and become accolytes and most dont wish to be pawns in the political games the churches play. The churches are also one of the most prominent factions that try to police the actions of nephilim to prevent them from 'shaming the good name of the churches'

Fallen Nephilim

Fallen nephilim are those nephilim who abandoned the path of virtue and good. They might have committed a great evil or were corrupted by an outside malicious influence. Some nephilim simply came to hate the masses of peasants constantly begging their help for the most mundane problems.
This twists their celestial powers into a dark reflection and their abilities become much more about harming others than helping them. Their halo becomes a dark reflection of its original shape and hue, such as turning a sinister red.
Fallen Nephilim can become pure once again, but it often requires intense effort.

Appearance

Nephilim are fundamentally human-looking, though with notable changes. A nephilim's celestial features are not dependent on their mortal parents and thus often stand out quite starkly in comparison to their community.

Their skin color is sometimes an unnatural shade such as gold, chalk white or ebon-wood black. Their hair color also might be an exotic colour such as fire-Red, gold, pitch-black or silver.

Most importantly however, the head of every nephilim is at all times surrounded by a halo of light or energy, making them immediately recorgnizable. The halo produces no light or sound and has not physical properties, but is clearly visible.

Nephilim age the same as humans, though their life expectancy is slightly extended.
