Avelon

Avelon is the weird and seemingly nonsensical world where the beings called "Sidhe" originate. Its geography and landscape is strange and inconsistent. One can walk in a straight line and his destination is more dependent on the wanderer than on his direction of travel. The Flora and fauna is strange, beautiful, horrific, alluring and dangerous. A wide variety of creatures can be found here, though watch your step traveler and do not stray from the path.

The lands of Faerie

The surface of Avelon is split into Summer and Winter, However the two trade territory regularly and the borders aren't anymore static than the rest of Avelon is. There are also the lands of the underwild, far beneath Avelon.

The land of Summer

The lands of Summer are the areas of Avelon that are vibrant and full of life. The plants here are fantastical, bright, colorful and seemingly in constant bloom. Animals are plentiful and everything looks out of a storybook with how beautiful it all seems.
However this land is highly dangerous for visitors. Beautiful women that beckon from a nearby river, a tree with fruit that entrances those that smell it, haunting music that beckons just around the next tree; the land of summer tries to lull visitors into straying from the path and losing themselves in Avelon's wild embrace of pleasures and delights.
While there are stories of those who have ventured into Summer and returned with nothing but fond memories for the place, more numerous are the stories of those who have somehow offended the Sidhe or the land and were never seen again.

The Land of Winter

The Lands of Winter are a stark contrast to the lands of summer. Instead of filled with life, they are simply covered in ice and snow, with the largest collection of life being forests of tall pine trees. These lands of bare mountains and blizzards are inhospitable in nearly every way, being scarce in food and with abundant predators. It truly does embody the Winter Sidhe ideal for being an environment where survival of the fittest is the only way to live and thrive.

The Lands of Winter are far less ambiguous and strange than might be expected by one that knows of summer, instead they are rather straightforward. Winter sidhe will not need an excuse to attack a traveler, they will take any sign of weakness as justification enough.

Strange Laws, Dangerous Paths

Avelon has its own rules which may seem nonsensical to outsiders but are highly important to its inhabitants and the realm itself. if one finds themselves here, they should follow these rules:
  • Do Not stray from the Path: Creatures that stray from the path towards the location they wish to reach will find themselves unable to find the way back to the path and may never be seen again.
  • Do Not Harm the land: Lighting a fire, breaking the rock or other forms of resource gathering will often be seen as an insult to the natives and may lead to a violent confrontation.
  • Mind Your speech: Never say 'Thank you' or you owe whoever you are thanking. Never answer in the affirmative if somebody asks you wether they can 'have your name'. And be especially careful of any promises you make, word them vague if possible.
  • Protect your name: Preferrably never ever speak your name while in Avelon. Take on a nickname or a pseudonym.
  • Equal Trades: Within Avelon there is no such things as gifts or stealing, only equal trades. And here, enforced by the strange magic of the realm, everything can be traded, even ephemeral things like names, thoughts of feelings. Make as few trades as possible, mind your speech. The native Sidhe willbe much more experienced in tricking newcomers than you might expect.
Danger Everpresent: Hazardous weather that appears suddenly, beautiful flowers that might become poisonous at a moment's notice, vines that can animate to ensnare a traveler, beasts that suddenly bare monstrous teeth or reveal themselves from their hiding spots and more: If a traveler does anything to displease Avelon or its inhabitants the entire environment can turn hostile at a momen'ts notice. This is usually not a problem if one keeps to the Sidhe's customs, but may still occur.
