The Sidhe Remnant

The Sidhe Remnant is all that remains of the once great Sidhe Empire. At one point controlling much of the lands that make up the Bastion Realms today, the Remnant is now reduced to only controlling the Alfwoods.    The Remnant's collapse was triggered by the arrival of humans. Humans, and their rapid reproduction rates, quickly overran the elves. Although no elf is old enough to actually experience the collapse,  some within the Remnant still hold a resentment towards humans and non-elves are barred from entering the Alfwood without an escort.    Despite the general mistrust between humans and elves of the Remnant, the threat from the Nevereve Protectorate forced the Remnant to join the Bastion Imperium. Trade between the Remnant and the other Realms has started to pick up, but non-elves are still barred from being unescorted.

Structure

The Sidhe Remnant is an absolute monarchy with the King has complete control. Logistically, the King delegates day-to-day operations to his various Councillors and other nobles.

Culture

Sidhe elves are hunters, craftsmen, alchemists, and gatherers. The Sidhe elves have an inert gracefulness that leades to every sidhe elf has at least a decent, if not good, grasp on some method of art. Sidhe elves value responsibility, loyalty, dexterity, physical and mental skill, sensual superiority, competitiveness and quickness. Their culture has many different rituals based on these values.   Due to the extremely low birth rate of the elves and growing irredentism to rebuild their once glorious Empire, leads them to try to protect as many members of their race as possible, thus the borders of the Alfwood has a great deal of security; in addition, to the natural defenses provided by the forest itself. Since most female elves are only able to have one or two children during their lifetimes, highly fertile females, are kept closely guarded at all times and are highly sought after by wealthy suitors. Many Sidhe elves hope that they will eventually regain their greatness and even become equal in number to humans or dwarves.   There is also a growing number of Sidhe elves who wish to live their lives as their ancestors did. This practice is called "going wildling". What originally was a coming-of-age tradition, other elves believe their fall from grace was because they abandoned their traditional way of living. Other "go wildling" simply to escape modern elvish living.

Foreign Relations

The Remnant, begrudgingly, is a member of the Bastion Realm. However, the Remnant is traditionally heavily isolationist.

Infrastructure

Major settlements within the Sidhe Remnant are built amongst the branches of the massive kardorn trees that grow deep within the Alfwood.    Smaller and more marginal settlements are either build on the forest ground, or as individual treehouses connected by bridges and platforms.
