Kobold

Kobolds are small, humanoid, reptilian creatures that emerged due to the magic of the Great Cataclysm. Generally weak and pitiful, they have a unique ability to absorb nearby magic. Placing their eggs near sources of power, especially creatures like dragons, not only changes affects the newborn's appearance but can grant it innate magical abilities or bolster its strength as well.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Kobolds lay eggs, which hatch and grow quickly, allowing them to quickly replenish their numbers. This causes plenty of frustration to other creatures, who find them annoyingly difficult to get rid of.

Ecology and Habitats

Kobolds live communally, and prefer to dwell in dark, cramped spaces that hinder larger creatures' movement, especially underground. They can create their own dwellings, but when they can make use of an abandoned structure, they do so. They can commonly be found in caves, especially in the Darklands, but also in forsaken dwarven mines and fortresses.

Behaviour

Kobolds would be described by some as cowardly, which many are, but in reality their defining trait is pragmatism. When they aren't sure of their ability to win a fight, they almost always flee or surrender, and they would much rather submit themselves to serving a powerful creature (especially if doing so means they can place their eggs nearby) than risk being killed.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kobolds have extremely sharp night vision, allowing them to see in near-complete darkness, which they use frequently to ambush larger and more powerful creatures.
