Description

Mananite on it’s own is nothing more than a battery without a direction for the power it contains, nor can it simply cast magic on it’s own. It needs another force to direct it. When Mananite activated crystals are destroyed it releases all of the stored energy at once releasing an explosion of Force energy which damages everything around it. Mananite can be used in place of materials for Spells, but the value in Mananite must match that of the materials being replaced.

Terms

While Mananite will always shine through a beautiful azure color, other properties of Mananite are not as "set in stone" as they say.

  • Color: Mananite is most always found in its nature azure blue coloring even when mixed with other substances.

  • Refined Mananite can be worked into all sorts of shapes and sizes and can be as malleable and the base material it is alloyed with.

  • An individual Charge is the base unit to measure the energy within Mananite. The humble Charge never changes in size or power level, but given enough Charges you can in theory create any magical effect that you wish from the magic power within Mananite.
  • Charge Capacity: The total maximum amount of energy Charges that Mananite can store at any given time.
  • Activation: Mananite has 2 states, Inactive and Active. While inactive Mananite is no different than any other naturally found crystal. In this state Mananite virtually has no tangible use, however while in this state Mananite is perfectly save to use and transport without worry of incident. Effectively this is Mananite "turned off". While Active Mananite takes a whole new meaning, in this "Active" state it can be used for all the mechanical and magical uses. This is the "on" state for Mananite. Methods and ways to activate Mananite very from user to user (some safer than others), but one common method of activation is channeling magic directly into the crystal.
  • Recharging: Mananite can be recharged with magical energy once it has used up its natural storage, typically all that is required for this is to channel magical spells into the crystal to store the newly generated magical essence into the crystal. However other forms of recharging are known to exist. The total number of times that Mananite can be recharged before it can’t be recharged anymore. Refer to the Quality table below.

  • Mananite's base Quality is Pristine and everything will scale on the quality scale based on the base value provided by the normal Quality.
  • It is possible for Crystal quality to decrease with wear and tear, or misuse.

  • Note: Keep in mind Efficiency is a percentage value. Price values are not scaled by efficiency and instead are scaled by their own scale called Value Increase.

  • Note: Some cases of extraordinary craftsmanship exist where some individuals have found ways to bypass levels of refinement for some (Typically artifact quality)creations. These methods of achieving these early advancements are very rare and typically not reproduceable. Typically methods to create such powerful creations without the proper refinement are very dangerous to one's own safety and more often than are unsuccessful.
  • Depleted: Depleted Mananite is what you get when Mananite can no longer be recharged and is out of charges, or in simpler terms no longer holds a magical charge at all. It does however retain its ability to react to magical energy, though this ability is not that pronounced. Due to this retained quality however Depleted Mananite can and is used for guns in The Azure Realms, after being turned into a powder form much like one would use gunpowder on Earth.

Size

Size directly determines which items can use the Mananite as well as the value and Charge Capacity of the crystal. The system assumes a Diminutive Crystal for Small Arm Firearms, Tiny Crystal for Two-Handed Firearms, and Small for larger weaponry.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Mananite can be described as an azure blue crystal in its natural state. While activated Mananite will glow and give off a small radius of light sometimes providing a nice source of light for deep under-dwellers. Modern refining techniques can allow for this Mananite to be forged into a variety of shapes and sizes as it is molded and fused with various substances, however even still the deep azure color of the Mananite always shines its way through and only through extensive dyeing techniques can this natural property of Mananite be extinguished.   Mananite feels and functions like a hard crystal, it is bare smooth on a side yet comes out to a point and is somewhat sharp on its edges.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Mananite is not flammable and is quite resistance to most acids. Mananite can be broken given a good amount of force and intent, but is not easily broken if simply dropped.

Compounds

Mananite forms alloys with the other alkali metals, copper, gold, silver, mithril, adamantine, and mercury (amalgams).   Mananite does not alloy with cobalt, iron, molybdenum, nickel, platinum, tantalum, or tungsten.

Geology & Geography

Mananite can be found deep underground and inside caves near sources of ambient magical power. The more powerful the source of magic the more likely larger Mananite veins will form. Xutara's moon Aura is known to be abundant with Mananite. The The Rings of Axiem are also to be known to contains high quantities of Mananite. On rare occasions Manantie may be found on the surface, usually from decaying orbits within the rings causing Mananite to fall onto the planet.

Origin & Source

Mananite was created by the goddess of magic Xutara along with the recreation of magic, the Weave and Ley Lines. Mananite is essentially depleted magical essence stored in a crystalline form, as such in places in high concentration new Mananite can be formed and produced slowly overtime as the natural magical of the world burns off and seeps into the earth. One could say that Mananite itself a byproduct of the magical weave.

Life & Expiration

Mananite is relatively stable in its natural state, particularly after The Mananite Disaster of Maozi Xi. Mananite can store its innate power almost indefinitely and as of yet unless activated the natural state of decay of Mananite is in the thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years.

History & Usage

History

First Century

  Mananite has existed since Day 1 of the new Axiem world, found in deep caves, on the moon Aura , and on The Rings of Axiem. Use of Mananite was first documented in early Kamiharan texts dating back to the first century. Ancient dwarves in their early societies managed to successfully use early unrefined Mananite to as components for early enchantable jewelry and as holy symbols for their gods.  

Second Century

  Mananite came about at the recreation of the world with Xutara and Urra being known to collaborate on the creation of the substance. Early reports indicate the first intended name for Mananite was Xutarite, however a disgruntled Conan wizard named Wilfre Galaxia in the 2nd century called the name "A Stupid and self-serving name" and redubbed the substance Mananite. This new naming eventually caught on and continues to remain named this way.  

Third & Forth Century

  Third and forth century advancements with Mananite were mild at best. That being said, however, several facts were learned about the substance. Firstly it was discovered that Mananite forms near places of ambient magic like leylines, secondly the moon Aura and the Rings surrounding the planet have a high quantity of Mananite concentrated there. And lastly Wilfre started to begin his plot to use the Leylines and the Mananite stored within them as a catalysis for his big plan.  

Fifth Century

  The fifth century of the world saw the most active use of Mananite in history until the more modern eras when refinement was discovered. The end of the last century saw a major breakthrough in Wilfre Galaxia's research and he was more than ready to put his theory to the test. Opportunity arose during the Conquests of Rose The Great and Cona fearing their defense were not great enough to stop Rose's advance sent Wilfre into Gallia with the orders "To cause havoc" and that is exactly what he did. Using his theory on Mananite activation he attempted to channel the powers of the Gallian Leylines to simultaneously activate all the Mananite stored under Gallia and channel that energy into himself as an attempt to achieve the power of a God. This radical experiment was surprisingly successful, more can be found in this article: Zeobide's Ascension. This had wide reaching consequences for Gallia and split the continent into many fragments.   Meanwhile across the ocean on the island of Kamihara a young dejected scientist by the name Maozi Xi, hearing of this event, was inspired to action. Maozi took to research on the strange volatile substance of Mananite, determined to harness the power Mananite can offer. Maozi would go on to create The 7 Artifacts of Xan. These 7 artifacts were poised to put Mananite onto the world stage, however the will of the Time God Aeon would not allow such. As little did Maozi, now in his early 40s, know his 9th great Artifact would incidentally being about The Mananite Disaster of Maozi Xi. Maozi Xi would be killed, while working on his 8th great artifact, during the Collaspe of the Xan Dynasty. Subsequently, with Maozi and his creations vanishing to the whims of time, this would begin a long 4 and ¾ century drought of recorded Mananite advancement.  

Tenth Century

  Finally the world would hit the double digit century mark and the topic of Mananite was once again brought to the surface of scientific and magical communities. In the year 902 the 13th Convention of Science convened; during this convention Verenigde Provincies scientist Kaleb Michaels announced some new findings with Mananite and informed the guests that he was going to use his research grant and dedicate it and his life into Mananite research and its potential. Unfortunally for Kaleb he would not live long enough to see his goal to fruition and that honor was given 56 years later at the 69th Convention of Science where Professor Orion Galaxia and Izabella Michaels announced their first successful refinement test that was easily reproduceable. It would not be long for Thallian societies to adapt to use Mananite more regularly and advance their weapon technology into the new age.

Discovery

While the existence of Mananite has been known since near the beginning of known time it was not until the year 145 AR when the Conan wizard Wilfre Galaxia officially pronounced the material. In the year 958 AR the Galaxian Scientific Society proclaimed the future use of Mananite could be extraordinary and Professor Orion Galaxia and his research partner Izabella Michaels famously announced the first successful discovery of a reproduceable form of refinement of the substance into something useful for the creation of magical and mechanical devices.

Everyday use

Early uses of Mananite was used as Jewelry and Sources of light. This eventually evolved into more practical and extremes uses such as the creation of weapons, army, tools, magical devises, and even artifacts. It was once used by Zeobide for his ascension as described in the history section above. After Xutara's refactor of Mananite in the 6th through 9th century Mananite soon gave way to more practical and less volatile uses. Modern uses of Mananite include, batteries for magical and mechanical devices, the core to many machines, used as a form of electricity, used as engines for airships and large powerplants, and much much more that can be found here!

Cultural Significance and Usage

In Gallia for years Mananite is treated as a scorn on their society. This is the direct cause of 2 factors both related. Zeobide's ascension to the greater pantheon not only disgraced the old Gallian empire but was also an indirect cause of death in 404 AR. With this ascension and the and mass usage of Gallian Mananite, leaving the continent virtually dry of any Mananite reserves for the next thousand plus years, use of Mananite as a driving force of technological and magical development Rose Morrison I is widely frowned upon in Gallian society, as they view its use a grim reminded of Zeobide's atrocity.   Meanwhile in modern Kamihara Mananite is the primary export and is well known for its unique Mananite creations. The major city of Kotodama specifically is well known for its Mananite and technological trade and Mananite is the primary reason for Kotodama to be known as one of The 7 Great Trade Cities of the world.

Industrial Use

Mananite is commonly used in forming stronger alloys with alkali metals, copper, gold, silver, mithril, adamantine, and mercury, in order to create stronger magically banded material for production. Such a process allows for easier item enchantments but can be rather expensive due to the difficulty and cost of materials for the creation. Mananite can also be used as an eco-friendly fuel source for factories.

Refinement

While early scientific minds such as Maozi Xi are known to have had creation methods for refining and using Mananite, it was not until 958 when Galaxian inventor Professor Orion Galaxia and Izabella Michaels made their world-renown scientific breakthrough and discovery of the first reproduceable refinement method of Mananite. Throughout the years the level of refinement available has gradually increased, the chart below will list the refinement levels by year.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Depleted Mananite can be used in a multitude of ways, a source of gunpowder for weaponry, or can be further refined later in history into a Mananite powder for quick use as spell components and for the recharging of magical charges.    The volatile nature of activated Mananite can be used as a Side product for explosives devices and bomb technology. Mananite has also been known to enhance and react well with some alchemical ingredients to create more potent, or explosive alchemical compounds.

Hazards

Early refinement can be quite dangerous as once activated Mananite has a risk of volatile combustions if mishandled. As safety practices and methods of refinement improve the risk of accidental combustion during refining and production greatly reduce.

Environmental Impact

Early reports on the environmental effect of Mananite were negative. Many eco-scientists made claims that use of Mananite, especially as explosives, harmed the environment in an irreparable way. However as modern studies have included Mananite's environmental impact is not as potent as some early claims suggest. If anything the volatile explosions release stored magical essence once lost to the world which further helps rebalance and recycle the weave. That being said however it has been shown that overuse of Mananite in singular areas have been show to impact the environment negatively as over saturating an area with magical energy has been shown to have it's side effects. Modern environmental experts are skeptical about the long-term impacts of Mananite as a source for powering large metropolitan areas such as Acadia. However alternative sources of power in most cases have proven to possibly be even more harmful to the environment. That being said Mananite's use as a merely a fuel source for manufacturing factories has been a concern encouraging production of products that produce more CO2.

Reusability & Recycling

Mananite can be recharged similar to a battery. Mananite that is eventually used slowly recycles magical essence formed in the weave and the slow cycle continues.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Primary suppliers of Mananite are Kamihara with their vast underground network of Mananite caves. The Galaxia hopped on the Mananite trade early and have since profited off its distribution.

Storage

Mananite is typically stored in its inactivated state for safety and typically kept in secure casing to prevent the crystals from cracking.
