Vulred Jequasghal

Vulred reigned as master of Jequa during the tumultuous decades of the 2200s. In the north, the Corgastorian Ghetunbalastod fought a continual war against the Grathon peoples who clung to the slopes of the Aeduccar mountains. In the west, the Elivas of Lodon and numerous petty states along the – hillrange caused considerable excitement with their military raids and economic competition. Finally, Nathrovas in the east presented a constantly shifting environment of threat and opportunities. Ever since the death of the last Casbarûn Ghalûn in the 1700s, the region was broken between numerous competing Etayen states. They fought and slaughtered one another, cultivating feuds which foreign mercenaries capitalized on for personal wealth. Vulred was a skilled and fair ruler in these times. He managed to maintain relative prosperity by balancing the interests of Jequasghal against the competitors and neighbors who bordered him.   The significance of Vulred as more than just another Etayen master in Everos came in --, when he was approached with a strange gift.   Come the 2280s, cirumstances in Everos changed. A figure named Bal’gorod proclaimed himself Nathrobal and slaughtered Aeyet’norn of Sutan, who reigned as the chiefest Nathrovayen state.   The educated and reasonable believed Vulred deceased amongside his 100 companions, Bal’gorod, the Atysvala, and millions of others caught in the Eshanic blast which decimated the continent. In a manner of speaking, they were correct. Vulred as he once was died. His mortal form was obliterated beyond any means of recovery. Yet, this was not his ultimate end. His mortal hands grasped the Esheryne womb which nourished the nascent form of Zarthum which was then unknown to the world. The Eshanic power which Ácolitus invested into it for his own purposes was reconstituted as a luminescent fragment. Vulred became the Eshanic entity which Ácolitus desired to create, though neight Ácolitus, Vulred, nor any other scholar of Eshanic matters could guess that truth. Like the Eshan themselves in eons past, Vulred was reborn as an Eshor given physical form. His own essence was not entirely destroyed, and thus remnants of his identity and memories survived into this new entity.   Vulred’s infantile years in reborn life were a stupor. No concept of his original self was initially apparent and the Eshorite fragment turned to normal life struggled to survive among the blasted and desolate islands of the Fringe.   An unexpected continuation of Vulred’s destiny came in 3451, when his remote island abode was discovered by members of the Keepers of the Lornesse company. They found him in the unconscious guise of an elder Etayen, which he believed himself to embody. His dwelling was a cabin of stout stature crafted from darkened timbers resting atop natural stones. Despite its mean appearance, it was an impressive bastion of civilization caught in such a remote reach of an inhospital land. Within, Vulred possessed a significant collection of tomes and strange relics which he had gathered during his reborn lifetime in the Fringe, counting some 1,000 or more years.   It was not until numerous years after the death of Zarthum that Vulred began to seriously question the nature of his powers and long life. He once attributed these strange boons to the aftershocks of the Esheryne stone which shattered in his grasp. If mortals could live prolonged lives through the continued blessings of the Eshan, as Syrgus Pyrgos had done, then the same could potentially be argued for latent power which is preserved. Yet, the proverbial fragments did not create a whole picture. Syrgus was kept alive by a sentient and conscious Eshanic force. Vulred was not, at least to his knowledge. Moreover, the Jequasghal’s power was growing. It blossomed in small measures, but he could feel the energy rising.
