Tekros

"The Dragons know this to be true. Abzu the creator gave of himself, that the world might have life. Of his mighty flesh is the stuff of the mountains, and his essence flows from them in rivers and streams to give life. His bones lie buried beneath the soil and it is here we find Tekros, resonating with his power."
~Istragan creation story

History & Usage

History

Most cultures claim to have been the first to make use of Tekros, and all have their stories of how it came to be. The Dragons taught us that Tekros was the bones of Abzu the primordial creator. The Zhaporians hold that it fell from the sky long ago as a gift. Elves say it is the remnant of the roots of the first tree, and Dwarves hold a theory that aeons of elemental pressures beneath the earth formed Tekros, just as it did all metals.
Regardless of origin, Tekros is prized by all and sought by craftsmen of all cultures.

Everyday use

While Tekros is very beautiful, it is rare to find jewelry or other luxuries made from it. The arcane resonance of Tekros makes it most prized for use in enchantment. While even a small amount of raw Tekros can enhance or stabilize a magical ability, it is fundamental to the art of runcarving. Tekros worked into the correct runes can create potent magical effects, and is by far the most reliable way of doing so.

Hazards

The very property that makes Tekros precious also makes it dangerous. Tekros resonates magic performed in its vicinity. This has the potential to amplify magical effects in unexpected and sometimes catastrophic ways. Raw or improperly worked Tekros can be as deadly to the user as to any foe they may seek to use it against. Some say the Empire had secret ways of stabilizing it, but those are now lost. So far as we know today, the only safe way to work Tekros is in rune carving.
