Windshear

Of the countless types of flying fish that exist on Yrdde, the Windshear is among the deadliest. Living in small schools, this predator relies on their number and maws lined with razor sharp teeth to hunt far larger prey, even taking down the occasional sky-whale. They prefer to pick off the wounded, elderly, or young, sometimes following schools of herbivors for hours before striking.   They are an important part of the diets of colonies on the north-eastern coast of Luminaria, and smoked Windshear is sometimes exported as far as Aetheris, where it is considered a rare delicacy.

Physical Description

Windshears have a streamlined, torpedo-shaped body, averaging six to eight feet in length. Their scales are smooth and iridescent, and tend to be a light blue or silver hue. This natural camouflage makes them nearly invisible against the sky-sea's backdrop, allowing them to stalk their prey undetected.   Their fins are transparent, woven from strands of solidified Aetherial energy that shimmer with a faint, electric blue luminescence. These fins, while delicate in appearance, possess a remarkable strength and flexibility, allowing for both rapid bursts of speed and graceful glides.   The most terrifying feature of the Cloud Razor is its mouth— lined with rows of needle-sharp teeth that can tear through flesh and bone with alarming ease. Their jaws, capable of unhinging wide, allow them to engulf prey larger than themselves or take crippling bites out of prey such as sky-whales.

Behavior

Windshear form small schools for protection and patrol vast expanses of the sky, detecting vibrations, shifts in air currents, and the scent of blood from miles away.   Their hunting tactics rely on stealth and surprise. Utilizing their natural camouflage and their ability to glide silently for long distances, they stalk their prey from above, launching into a deadly dive when the moment is right. Their swift attacks leave victims little time to react.
