NORTHERN FRONTIER - The Imperial Navy has imposed a strict quarantine on several northern territories, citing a rapidly spreading and deadly viral outbreak. The disease, officially named the “Crimson Rot” by Imperial medical officials, is said to be highly contagious and carries a gruesome mortality rate. The Emperor himself has addressed the public, urging calm and cooperation while assuring citizens that all efforts are being taken to contain the threat. However, eyewitness accounts paint a chilling picture of the quarantine's enforcement. Airships attempting to flee the affected territories have been intercepted and forcibly turned back, and there have been several reported accounts of blockade vessels shooting down civilian airships with little or no warning. "We have disabled several criminal ships attempting to slip through our protective barrier," said Capt. Saltfire, head of the task force, "Going forward, there will be a zero tolerance policy for smuggling, price gouging, or profiteering. If you suspect anyone of being guilty of these crimes, report them to your nearest navy outpost and you will be rewarded." While we at the Dispatch hope any evidence of crime is quickly reported to the appropriate authorities, we request that any witnesses to Imperial Navy actions in the affected area make an appointment with the local bureau. Any and all information is desired, and we will pay an appreciable bounty for any aethergraphs taken of such events.

A New Threat to the Empire?
The official description of Crimson Rot symptoms paints a disturbing portrait. Those infected first develop a network of black veins that resemble spider webs across their chest. These dark lines spread rapidly, creeping down the limbs and across the body. As the disease progresses, victims lose control of their motor functions, eventually succumbing to a state of violent, mindless aggression. Imperial medical experts claim they are working tirelessly to find a cure, but thus far their efforts have been unsuccessful. The sudden and severe nature of the quarantine has sparked widespread debate and speculation. While most citizens express faith in the Emperor’s efforts, some whisper of a darker truth. Rumors have begun to circulate in taverns and back alleys of a plague not of natural origins, but a result of Imperial explorer agents tampering with ancient, forgotten powers. We have requested further information from the local Arbiter office about these claims, but have not received any reply thus far. So far, no traces of the Rot have been spotted outside the affected areas. However, we do caution anyone with plans to pass through the neighboring islands to take necessary precautions.
