Observer's Crest

Eyes of the Tribe

Oftentimes, a tribe's size or length grows too much for a standard guard to simply watch over them. The tribe's walls and buildings are critical for the survival of the population. To ensure safety, a coalition of Elven and Orcish Treefixers invented a new safety network; the Observer's Crest.

In concept, the Observer's Crest is an immensely simple idea. A Treefixer stands atop a simple tower with openings on each side. When they see someone in danger, they use a rope system to navigate towards them as quickly as possible. The rope system, when created perfectly, can get a Treefixer across the tribe within a few minutes.

In practice, the Crest has worked phenominally. Especially in tribes with access to easier gliding or flight, the Observer's Crest has served as the perfect way for Treefixers to identify problems in their tribe.

In recent years, however, the Crests have evolved. Treefixers still work on them, but they have expanded to huge public speaking podiums. A Tribebuilder may use the ropes to access the stage, and then use vocal modulators on top of the Crest to speak to their tribe. A policing force can use it to apprehend criminals. A Cleric can use it to announce holidays.

Any tribe with an Observer's Crest is understood to be a high-quality, no-nonsense organization. These Crests are recognized by every civilization, and tourists often look to them as a sign that they are in a safe place.

The Design

Observer's Crests are often built with the tribe's "coat" as a design. The "coat" is a symbol that the tribe is represented by. Elfshire, for instance, has the coat of the Arengold Tree.

The Negatives of the Crest

As expected, the Crest is often utilized by highly-mobilized tribes as a method for obstructing their people, rather than purely for developing safety measures. A tribe that uses the Crest for oppression finds it just as useful, sadly. In these tribes, the Crest is seen as the emblem of their tyrant's power, as they can appear within a heartbeat in the wrong situation.

Several crests have been torn down by mobs in the past, often due to the idea that they are symbols of too much governance. Tribes must be careful with these safety measures, or else risk the wrath of their population.
