Watabowi Empire

The Watabowi Empire is the largest and most powerful empire on the continent of Obela, and one of the most powerful in the world. Spanning more than 5,000km east to west, the Watabowi Empire greatly influences affairs on Obela and to an extent within the Roha Sea region. Though younger than many of its counterparts on Armara, the Watabowi Empire is a proud, often boastful empire granting entry to only a select few outside empires, often leading to suspicion and mistrust.
Unlike many of its counterparts across Eridus, it was able to maintain use of more of its technology after the Fall, including automobiles, railroads, electronic communications, among others. As such, they are a powerful empire, however their leadership has often realized the importance of staying the most technologically advanced nation on Eridus. This is done partially through innovation, though largely through restricting foreign trade outside Obela and strict immigration laws preventing scientists and inventors from leaving, though often unsuccessfully due to the Empire's sheer size and often uncontrollable terrain, particularly with regard to the Kailu Rainforest.

Structure

The Watabowi Empire is subdivided into a series of chiefdoms, all with nominal autonomy over internal affairs, with the Metiki in Kokora serving as a kind of "king of kings", with absolute authority over the whole of the empire.

History

The areas now forming the core of the empire were once a series of city-states, each jockeying for power over the region. By the 7th and 8th centuries AF, the city of Kokora had gathered most of the smaller city-states under their hegemony, including the prominent city of Tasoko. This eventually led to the formal formation of the Watabowi ("great union") Empire,

Territories

Watabowi territories largely consist of the jungles and savannas of southern Obela.

Military

The Watabowi rely strongly on their military to protect their borders and keep provinces loyal, and thus have a strong navy and land army, the later often taming and using theropod dinosaurs found within their borders for power projection and intimidation, though they are rarely used in combat.

Foreign Relations

The Watabowi Empire is standoffish toward other empires and skeptical of outsiders, especially from other continents, with Watabowi waterways carefully patrolled for unauthorized ships. The Watabowi have trading relations with their land neighbors and the Markazi Empire, and the Armaran nations through the Markazi, but non-Obelans are heavily discriminated against, with no path to citizenship for these other species.
