The Hounds of Revelry
The Hounds of Revelry is a private organization that hunts Magic-Users, Necromancers, and demon summoners, shrouded in mystery and zealotry. They believe that magic is a powerful tool that can easily corrupt and harm, leading to dark practices left unchecked, and that those who abuse it must be stopped before they can do harm to innocent people. The Hounds view their work as a holy mission, and their devotion to their cause is absolute.
The organization is made up of highly trained and skilled individuals, often recruited from orphanages or monasteries where they are raised and trained from a young age. They are selected for their physical prowess, mental fortitude, and unwavering faith in the cause. The training they receive is rigorous, and they are taught to be proficient in a variety of weapons and combat techniques, as well as the ability to detect and dispose of magical spells and creatures of darkness.
The Hounds of Revelry are experts in tracking and hunting down magic users and cultist. They use a variety of methods, including gathering information from informants, spying on suspected individuals, and using their honed senses to track down and eliminate their targets. They are known for their ruthless efficiency and their willingness to use any means necessary to achieve their goals.
When a magic user is discovered, the Hounds will observe carefully before launching a surprise attack, using pack tactics of 3:1 and their prior knowledge to neutralize their target's defenses. They are skilled in both ranged and melee combat, and often use unconventional and exotic weapons to throw off their opponents. Rarely do the Hounds capture magic users and some describe their tactics akin to feral wolves tearing into and slaughtering a lamb with no hesitation.
The Hounds of Revelry believe that there is a direct link between magic users and creatures of darkness. They view magic as a corrupting force that draws the attention of malevolent entities from the Chaos, such as demons and Fae. In their view, magic users who abuse their power are not only a threat to the world but also to themselves, as they risk being consumed by the dark forces they are in league with.
The Hounds believe that by eliminating magic users, they are not only removing a direct threat to the world but also preventing the further spread of darkness. They view magic users as a gateway for creatures of darkness to enter the world and wreak havoc, and so they make it their mission to hunt down both magic users and the creatures that seek to harm the world.
The Hounds see their role as defenders of the world, protecting it from the dangers of both magic and the creatures that seek to exploit it. They view their work as a necessary and righteous endeavor, one that requires unwavering dedication and an unyielding commitment to their mission.
The belief in the link between magic users and creatures of darkness is at the core of the Hounds' philosophy, and it informs every aspect of their work. They are relentless in their pursuit of both magic users and the creatures that seek to exploit them, and they will stop at nothing to eliminate these threats and safeguard the world from their dangers.
Public Agenda
The Hounds of Revelry maintain a public agenda through shell organizations that emphasizes the dangers of magic and the need to protect society from those who would abuse it. This agenda is designed to garner public support for their mission while maintaining the secrecy of their organization and the identities of their members.
The Hounds organizations speak out against magic publicly, often posing as concerned citizens or members of local religious groups. They work to raise awareness of the dangers of magic and to urge the government and other organizations to take action to protect society from those who would use magic for their own gain.
At the same time, the Hounds maintain strict secrecy regarding their organization and the identities of their members. They wear bone, silver, and gold plated masks and gray robes with black trim during all operations and do not reveal their true identities to anyone outside the organization.
When the Hounds identify a magic user who is abusing their power, they watch first then act swiftly and decisively to neutralize the threat. The Hounds' elite members will track down and corner the magic user, using their combat training and magical detection abilities to quickly apprehend the target. The use of their masks during these operations helps to maintain the secrecy of the organization and protects the identities of their members. To this end, it is impossible to know what type of social class or ethnicity members predominately are.
Tenets of Faith
The Hounds of Revelry follow four rules in their pursuit to protect humanity from the exploitation of magic:
- The Power of Magic Must Be Controlled: The Hounds believe that magic is a powerful tool that can be easily abused, and it is their duty to ensure that it remains under control. They believe that unregulated magic can lead to chaos, destruction, and corruption. Therefore, they seek to regulate the use of magic and ensure that it is only used for the greater good. To achieve this, the Hounds monitor the use of magic in society, both through observation and through informants. They investigate and neutralize any magic users who pose a threat to society and work to limit the use of magic in public life. The Hounds also believe that it is their responsibility to educate the public on the dangers of uncontrolled magic and to advocate for the regulation of its use.
- Magic Users Must Be Held Accountable: The Hounds believe that magic users must be held accountable for their actions. They believe that those who abuse their powers and use magic to harm others or disrupt society must be punished. They seek to bring these individuals to justice, using force if necessary to stop them. The Hounds also believe that it is their responsibility to ensure that magic users are properly trained in the use of their powers. They seek to provide education and training to magic users to ensure that they are aware of the dangers of their powers and are able to control them.
- The Order Must Remain Unbiased: The Hounds believe that their duty is to protect society from the dangers of magic, regardless of who is using it. They strive to remain unbiased in their pursuit, treating all magic users with equal scrutiny and vigilance. They believe that their work is not about punishing magic users, but rather about protecting society from the harm that can be caused by uncontrolled magic. The Hounds also believe that it is their responsibility to work with other organizations that share their goals. They seek to form alliances with groups that seek to regulate the use of magic, whether they are religious, political, or social organizations. They believe that by working together, they can more effectively combat the threat of magic.
- The Order Must Work in Secrecy: While the Hounds have a public agenda, they believe that their true work of the hunt must be done in secrecy to prevent panic and unrest in society. They believe that by operating in the shadows, they can more effectively combat the threat of magic without causing unnecessary alarm. To achieve this, the Hounds work in small, secretive groups, using codes and signals to communicate with each other. They also seek to keep their activities hidden from the public eye, operating under the guise of a religious or social organization. The Hounds believe that secrecy is essential to their work, and that by working in the shadows, they can more effectively protect society from the dangers of uncontrolled magic.
"I have seen the devastation that unchecked magic can bring. Believe me, you don't want to see what we do to those who abuse it."
