Other Deities
While most within the Ancestor Isles believe in the Adarric & Luciferic duel Pantheon or an interpretation of them, such as Humans, Elves and Catfolk, other races and/or individuals believe in other deities or pantheons. Even Catfolk, who believe the Adarric and Luciferic deities to be good and evil spirits, worship additional deities that aren't accepted within the mainline duel pantheon.
They are the following:
- Nymphs: An ancient and powerful yet mysterious group of female deities or spirits that has had no recorded sightings in written history. However, the Therians of the Wilds worship them, stating that Nymphs gave them their ability to shape shift and are the most powerful of the spirits, ruling over all other spirits. Outside of the Therians, only one other race stated they had knowledge of such a deity, the Avariel, whom are believed to be either isolationists, extinct, or believed to be a myth. "Priests" who worship Nymphs are called Shamans within the Therian culture. Many Catfolk scholars believe the Archfiends and Aethereal deities to be related to Nymphs.
- Spirit Elementals: Another group of ancient deities/spirits, Spirit Elementals are split into four sub-groups. Gnomes, whom are believed to secretly watch over the land and are guardians of the underground realm, such as in caves or other caverns but also provide the land for life to live on. Undines, spirits that are believed to be the spirits of the water and provide water for all life. Sylphs, the providers of air so that all life may breath. And Salamanders, the protectors of light and heat so life may see their way and remain warm so they cannot freeze. Spirit Elementals are worshipped primarily by Therians, though many non-Therians revere them as lesser Aethereal beings, linking some of them to the various domains of Aethereal Lords. They are considered to be the essential spirits for life.
- Ancestral Spirit Worship: Practiced by some Therians, most Catfolk, Dwarves and Moon Elves, to varying degrees and forms. Rituals and practices vary depending on culture and tribe/clan. Therians dedicate the souls of their loved ones to the spirits by burning their bodies (Fire/Salamanders) using wood that the land provided (Land/Gnomes) then let the wind (Air/Sylphs) carry their ashes to spread across the sea (Water/Undines) so that they may be of service to the spirits, or possibly join them. They are then celebrated once a year in honor of their service to the clan during life and spirits in the afterlife. Catfolk often strip their loved ones naked, wrap them in a mixture of leaves and bark before burying them in the ground so that they may join the spirits in nature to serve them once more. Once a year, Catfolk hold a memorial to honor their ancestors that had passed on three generations or more before they were born. If a Catfolk had done enough great deeds, it's believed that they will become a Spirit themselves. Dwarves are less ritualistic in regards to honoring their ancestors and simply display their ancestor's names within their family tomb and dedicate themselves to work hard in their honor. Moon Elves are completely different. Instead of burning or burying their loved ones, they skin them, use their blood as face paint and consume their bodies raw so that their ancestor's power may be passed on to them and future generations. Some may utilize the skin for clothing or another cosmetic use of some sort.
- Ymir, Primordial Once-Living God: Accidentally created by using the blood of deities during a battle between Archfiends and Aethereal Lords. Ymir wanted left alone but the various deities refused so he created the giants and ogres to fight with him. Upon his defeat, ogres disappeared to an unknown place and giants continued to worship him by living their lives how he did, isolated from the world in the frozen lands of the far north.
