Orichalcum Ore

Orichalcum Ore is almost exclusively found within the Savage Wastes. It is a dark stone that, when melted down and refined, turns into the metallic Orichalcum.

Properties

Geology & Geography

Orichalcum is primarily found within the Savage Wastes region and has appeared in small quantities around other locations, including the Soul Spire and sometimes found near altars within the Moon Elf caverns. The only recorded locations all have one thing in common: A similar type of corruption that has tainted the environment.

History & Usage

History

Orichalcum was and is perceived as a barbaric and evil metal due to the stigma that all Orcs are barbarians and that all Moon Elves are Archfiend worshippers. The metal ore was discovered when Sun Elves attempted to go into the region that became the Savage Wastes and what little remains of the records from that time show that the metal ore previously didn't exist.

Everyday use

Orichalcum is utilized in a similar fashion to Iron and Steel. Orcs primarily use it to forge armor and weapons. However, they do use it for other common uses, such as reinforcing their buildings to help protect it against the Maelstrom.

Distribution

Trade & Market

For those living outside the Savage Wastes, Orichalcum is seen as an exotic metal. Superstitious individuals see it as an evil metal and won't use it while collectors and smiths prize it due to it's regional rarity.

Storage

In it's raw state, blacksmiths and merchants will store this ore within a small, iron box to suppress it's potential corruption side effects. However, once refined, the metal's side effects do not seem to be present and will store it normally, similar to other metal ingots.

Law & Regulation

Most governments and trade agreements require the ore to be sold, shipped and refined by licensed merchants and smiths due to the corruptive aura it holds from the areas it's mined in. Once refined, regulations are lifted and the metal is treated the same as iron and steel.
