His Majesty Ulysses Irving Beaufort
Ulysses Beaufort is the impish overlord of Kosona, in the timeline prior to Mordeo's freedom from Anosok. As the city's leader, Ulysses prefers to be addressed as 'his majesty' - fitting considering the man's golden wreath and robes.
His majesty remains in a fixed place, upon a throne in his private airballoon. In Anosok, it is revealed that he is paralysed from the waist down, due to a failed poisoning by his twin brother, Mordeo. A serial hoarder, Ulysses is surrounded by mountains of junk, precious and otherwise, and is always accompanied by his personal assistant, Judith, and her long list of rules.
Ulysses sees the city as a grand play - the actors are his citizens, and their actions can provoke either anger or amusement. The denizens of Kosona would agree that it is best to get on his good side, should you be thrown to the ground below! By nature, Ulysses is prone to temper tantrums, fits of laughter, and a general childishness accompanies all of his actions.
In short, it is fortunate that he is a figurehead rather than a person of actual power within the city.
