Elarikan Plague
Transmission & Vectors
It is transmitted through direct contact, but can also spread to nearby plant life and/or food sources if it is within reach.
Symptoms
Once the liquid form of the substance comes in contact with biological matter, it causes putrefaction within a few moments. Just a single drop onto the skin and the individual will be dead in less than 30 seconds.
Treatment
There are no known treatments.
Prognosis
Guaranteed fatality. All body functions will shut down within seconds, paralyzing the victim for up to 30 seconds before finally reaching the heart.
Hosts & Carriers
The plague can spread through plant life and grass, causing nature to wither within proximity. However, the plague moves at a much slower pace than its original gaseous form.
Epidemiology
If it comes in contact with biological matter during its lesser state, it can take up to a whole day before the host dies. The plague can survive within rotten flesh and/or decayed plant life.
History
The Elarikan Plague is an experimental acid substance that can be transferred through air and touch. It’s a green liquid that can emit toxic gas that burns on contact.
There are multiple stages of the Elarikan that has been experimented on for years.
Concentrated Liquid
Mixed Particles
Spoilers from the Scourge of the East
This is the purest form of the Elarikan, which is the deadliest toxin.
On touch, it can turn a full-grown man into a putrefied corpse in matter of seconds. It burns like acid on impact with skin.
This is a lesser state of the Elarikan, in which it can mimic diseases.
This form can infect vegetation and remain dormant for a longer period of time.
If consumed, it will take up towards a day before the infected falls dead. This state of Elarikan can be transferred upon touch or fluids.
The carrier won’t know that they’re infected before their skin starts to turn black with decay, in which they only have a few more hours left.
During the events of the Scourge of the East, Lord Gorethorn experimented with Vanghouls to create weapons of mass destruction. Using a string of the Concentrated Liquid base of the Elarikan, he was able to inject the plague into the bloodstream of a group of strong Vanghouls. During this state, the Elarikan would bind with the blood and pass through the body, slowly eating away at the host. This would turn the Vanghoul into a walking death trap. If the host were to die, the Elarikan would leave the body and infect anyone who got into the cloud.
Earlier experiments with this string was less impactful, and would allow the host to live relatively long lives, but completely corrupt their minds. These experiments were only carried out on animals.
Cultural Reception
The sign of this plague is perceived as the end of life, and the carriers are feared by the general population and sentenced to immediate banishment in order to prevent the plague from spreading.
