Abominations of the Accursed Earth

No abomination is like the other, these grotesque bulks of knotted tumorous flesh, and malformed limbs, appear to be carelessly and hastily assembled by a mad man. They often have a disordered collection of sense organs, large eyes, ears, and mouths that appear at random places across creature’s amorphous body or along their lashing, twisting, tentacles or pseudopodia. Their limbs feel and probe the air around them, like a battery of sensory organs similar to an insect's. These hapless beings are truly horrific to behold, violating the uncanny valley and repulsing even the most hardy of wanderers.

The Accursed Earth is home to many advanced and malevolent groups for whom vile genetic experiments are not an uncommon practice, often in an attempt to breed “super-mutant” warriors or to refine a specific trait in order to improve the next generation of their monstrosities. The experiments carried out by such groups are not always successes. Those subjects who prove too difficult control or kill or whose intelligent minds have not yet succumbed to madness (and thus do not warrant immediate termination or abortion), are simply discarded, the abominations simply ejected into the harsh unforgiving wilderness of the Accursed Earth.

In appearance abominations vary considerably, however all are horrendous and warped mockeries of life. Most have been totally altered, bearing little or no resemblance to human beings or animals. If a subject's mutation has been deemed a failure, scientists often use the same subject for more and more inhuman experiments, waste not, want not. Lost causes with deformed eyes, long tendrilous tongues, jagged fangs, warped or ragged claws, thick warty skins, misshapen mouths, and hair in odd places are common. Other features might include atrophied limbs, an odd deformed wing or two (although incapable of flight), a fat lazy tail, pseudopodia for legs.

Some abominations are hungry, some hostile and aggressive, some protective. If hunting or attacked abominations respond aggressively, flailing whatever workable mutated limbs or tentacles they have, biting with slavering putrid mouths. All abominations cause fear in those who face them and only the brave are able to stand their ground. Abominations who survive in the harsh wilds of the Accursed Earth usually heal very rapidly making them difficult to kill. Further their amorphous forms make them less vulnerable to cause critical damage to as there are no obvious weak points. They are often hard to surprise as they have no traditional front or back side and many have eyes covering their bodies. Many abominations are photosensitive, their many eyes making it uncomfortable to be in the presence of full sunlight, others are sensitive to sonic disruptions due to their many ears, all hate fire. Wanderers be wary what place you take refuge in for the night, for an abomination may have already made it their home...
