Rammah the Cruel Character in The Accordlands | World Anvil

Rammah the Cruel

Archmage of the Black Tower and noted as one of the most gifted mages ever born in the Accordlands. He weaves a dark web that threatens the existence of not only Deverenia, but the entire Accordlands.

In the story...

Rammah the Cruel has been a major antagonist of the story thus far. Making his first appearance at the Genecourt estates, Rammah and his forces consisting of allied Black Tower Mages, The Black Tower Wyrm Guard, and Church of the Storm Zealots slaughtered Genecourt defenders. This enabled the Rebellion shock trooper force to fight their way into the estate and ultimately defeat the Prince Alhana Genecourt.    At this confrontation it was revealed that Rammah the Cruel had not only counted on the Rebellion's victory, but actively ecouraged them to spill the blood of the Prince Genecourt. Before he escaped, it was revealed that Seven Summer's sister, Five Path, was now a mage in Rammah's personal retinue. Path had also acquired Alhana Genecourt's infant son, who was apparently paramount to some strange design of Rammah's.   It has been thus discovered that Rammah the Cruel was working in opposition to Azraan the Foul and Savras the Undertaker. Each Archmage had been using the Rebellion to their own end, and the unity of the Black Tower was shattered, if it was ever a thing to begin with. Rumor has it that Rammah the Cruel is entirely responsible for fanning the flames of the Rebellion by stealing an experimental subject of Azraan the Foul's and releasing it in Western Deverenia.   A peculiar note of Rammah is that his entourage is entirely made up on students who were all Cursed Maidens. The concept of a Cursed Maiden is that of a woman born with a dark destiny and formidable magic. They are almost always imprisoned or killed by the Fey, but Rammah apparently has either recruited or rescued several who now act as his top agents.   After the fall of the Black Tower, Rammah the Cruel is known to be the only archmage still alive, but his whereabouts are unknown.

History

Rammah was born to a nothing family in the outskirts of Aedroud territory on the Valadir border. His family had terrible fortune, needing to relocate several times after their home was destroyed in the constant border clashes between Prince Aedroud and the Valadir Imperial Army. When he was six, the story is that a squad of Imperial Knights had crossed the border and pillaged the village their family had relocated. The child proceeded to awaken tremendous evocation powers, slaughtering the Imperial Knights. None of the knights survived, and the remaining villagers whsipered stories of the knights begging for death as the six year old practitioner inflicted tortuous cruelty after cruelty on them. Shortly after, the Black Tower scooped him up as it did to most talented children.   At the Black Tower Rammah's powers and cruelty were honed to the sharpest of blades. He rose through the ranks and was responsible for the death of numerous prefects and promising students, but nothing was ever proven. None stood in his way, not even his mentor when he chose the Archmage Tavaris the Meteor. After a mere two years, Rammah challenged Tavaris to a formal duel for his seat as an Archmage. Outraged at the insolence, Tavaris accepted and was defeated. Defeated, though, is the incorrect term as the poor Archmage was blasted from this reality, his soul completely destroyed.   Rammah has served as Archmage since he was 17 years old, meaning he was the youngest ever to ascend. His passion for destruction never ceased, and his students are cultivated from the most violent and evil of the Black Tower's students.
