Origin and the Gods in The Accordlands | World Anvil

Origin and the Gods

This tale has been told to the children of the Accordlands as well as their children’s children and their children as well…
Over a millenia ago seven beings of great power were exiled from their homeland. They were not kin, nor comrades, nor even friendly. Yet together their shared burden forced them to wander together. It was on this journey that the Seven happened across Terranoth, a plane blackened and barren by an ever-present raging storm. It was here that the beings stopped their wandering and settled upon a home.
The Seven banded their powers to break the storm, conquering the power that drove it and calming the lands. The great storm had claimed most life, but the Beings breathed life back into the earth, sky, and waters. Slowly, people and creatures began to repopulate and flourish, and the Seven were heralded as the Lords of Thunder, those that defied the Storm.
However, the Lords of Thunder began to splinter as a common goal faded away. Slowly their individual personalities began to blossom now that they were free from their burden.
Allessia the Wanderer called upon her followers to explore vast landscape and unearth its old secrets.
Ilvion the Illuminated Lord sought Wisdom and Understanding with all of his being.
Magnus Arcadis the Lord of Battle grew bored of peace and taught his followers the ways of war.
Melanthe the Arcane Awakened select people and creatures, simply to see what they would do with her Gift.
Kohn Peacehand the Lord of Humility helped organize the people into Kingdoms and taught them the subtlety of words.
Yanthorine the Valiant Lord inspired her followers to pursue Justice and Faith
Alhana Ersane whispered secrets to those who listened in dark places.
The Lords of Thunder, no longer unified by purpose, began to bicker and fight, for there was no higher power than they. Mistaken, though, they were. For an enemy was upon their doorstep.
The Lords of Dusk had chosen Terranoth as their next conquest, and their forces of insidious shadow creatures and highly-disciplined knights swept across the land. The people’s champions and Gods no longer stood together, and one by one they ceded land and blood until Kohn Peacehand sacrificed his life to stall the invasion.
Realizing they had squandered the initiative, they formed an Accord to gather together and unite once more. The Lords of Thunder struck back, but the war had been decided long ago, for six Lords of Thunder cannot defeat 7 Lords of Dusk.
In a desperate move to clear their guilt and failure, the Lords of Thunder sacrificed themselves to protect what little land and followers remained. Central Terranoth was ripped from its core, and the Lord of Thunders’ lives were used to fuel a protective weave around this fragment of land.
That land is now the Accordlands. The legacy of the Lords of Thunder that once ruled over all of Terranoth. As the stories go, if you travel far past civilization, out past the shattered lands or beyond the frozen North, you can find the ends of the earth. The story says that you can see the Old World from there, the remnants of our once great land. Who knows what is out there, though. Are the Lords of Dusk still down there? Are the Lords of Thunder truly deceased? Those are questions worth many lifetimes of study and perhaps may never be known.
