The 4 Pillars World

In the Northwest corner pours the rain basin. A giant column of constantly falling water landing in a great whirlpool, which is an abyssal lake in a cliffy mountainous area. The column of water thins radially outward, until it is just a torrential rain at the cliffs of the basin, and a typical shower at the foothills of the mountains, eventually tapering off to a sprinkle by the time you reach particularly populous villages. The rain basin lies near the Northwest corner of the world.   In the Northeast corner float the wind-lifted cliffs. A place where the wind blows so heavily, that cliffs and mountains are held aloft in the areas where the wind blows upward consistently. In some places, the wind blows downward, resulting in calderas and canyons formed by the wind, and bare rock. In others, the wind has no consistent direction, and rocks hurl about and smash loudly against each other.   In the Southwest corner rises the pillar of heaven. A single rock formation which reaches endlessly into the sky. It is twisted with a multitude of different minerals and smaller formations. The formation is not still. It twists upwards at all times, with an enormous base which produces a color display of crystals and minerals that twist up into the pillar at a constant rate. To stand near it is to live in an unending earthquake. If you hold on to it, you will rise; slowly at first, inches per day, and then quickly as the spire tightens up above.   In the Southeast blows the fire-storm. The land near the fire-storm is a mosaic of various landscapes between enormous fissures, each dressed in smaller cracks. Some of these landscapes support forests or grasses, others are dry and rocky. Some are glazed with glass. The cracks glow and the fissures reveal a whipping fire, which increases in intensity up to the fire storm itself, which is a cumulonimbus cloud of pure fire extending into the ground. It is not a steady feature, but rather recedes and expands, causing fire to shoot from the cracks and fissures at random intervals. Some landscapes are bathed in fire, others are walled in by it, but unharmed. The land is without darkness, and the villagers learn to avoid burns.   These are the pillars of the world.
