Torolod

Tolorod is a pseudohistorical figure noted in some sources in the Eleven Cities as the eldest son of the wizard Morogyad.

History

Morogyad is generally agreed to have taken a wife named Abeyan during his mid-career sojourn in Tyros. Biographers Hephryan of Tyros and Orrdelph agree that this relationship resulted in three children, of whom Tolorod was the eldest. Both biographers agree that Morogyad was an attentive and munificent father, but provide few additional details about his family.

Thaumatological interest

The pre-Wesmodian tradition is essentially silent on the independent life and career of Tolorod, an interesting omission in that this man is - if anything much else about the biography of his father can be taken as remotely accurate - the grandson of Zargyod, the god of luck, wealth and the sea. No historical or mythopoeic records are known to exist of Zargyod imparting the same powers to Tolorod as he did to Morogyad, though the possibility was noted by the Phoylan thaumatologist Yran Qobryod in the context of his discussion of the Navigators whose ruins he investigated. Proposing that Navigator society was a hereditary aristocracy of wizards, Qobryod proposes that such an aristocracy might exist, unbeknown to itself, among the people of Tyros in the form of the descendants of Morogyad via Tolorod. The publication of these ideas in Tyros was supposedly greeted with a stir of social interest, though a century and a half later there has yet to be any systematic investigation as to who those people might possibly be.
