Lycaeon

One of the more dramatic legends of Thascien is that of the Hero of the Breach.   Just over five hundred years ago, in what is known as the Battle of Terevalle Breach, the monstrous inhabitants of the Deadlands were able to break past many of the defenses against them and invade the Tate mountains, overrunning an entire fetchling city before being driven back. Many dwarven warriors fought to regain this ground, but the battle would have been lost if it were not for a single drow swordsman, said to have been alight with radiance. He led the charge against the horrors, and before his death won the defenders enough advantage to rout the horde of monsters.   Identified only by the name Lycaeon, little information could be found about this man, only several recent companions who had made personal guesses about his past life. Anything more was indistinguishable from gossip and speculation, and dwarven historians were content to concentrate on recording the names of their own heroes. Later, as it became known that priests of Szandor had lost their connection to the god at close to the same time, speculation began to spread that the mysterious drow warrior had been an incarnation of the god.   A statue of Lycaeon was erected when the city of Terevalle was rebuilt, and the area around it left free of construction, leaving the immense gouges in the surrounding stone where the battle had been fiercest. Some of the few remaining followers of Szandor have named it a holy site, and the occasional pilgrim still travels there to see it.
