Cymrian the Lost

Once he was known as Cymrian the Last, after his followers spoke of him being the last hope of mankind, even all of Thascien. Once lauded as the savior of Thascien, once hailed in song and beloved wherever he went, once thought to speak the words of the gods themselves, Cymrian was said to have been foretold to restore the ancient kingdom of man and reverse the damage of Ruadryn's catastrophic reign. Instead, he failed. Some say he was defeated in battle, some say he fell to the temptations his supernatural foes showed him, taking up the mage-king's throne and claiming dominion over the blasted wasteland. His name became a curse, his former epithet turned to mockery, and now he is spoken of as at best a catastrophic failure and at worst the second of mankind to defile their ancient homeland.   Despite this reputation, there remains some debate as to Cymrian's true race. A few historians and more storytellers deem him a fallen angel, and while humanity is blamed for his fall, he is most commonly thought to have at least borne the blood of celestials. Some say he was a descendant of the royal line of the Deadlands, while others claim he was of common birth.   Of all the figures of legend, Cymrian is the one the facts are most unclear about, and the tales most differ. Some say he took his own life in shame upon realizing his betrayal. Some say he simply perished rather than committed any wrong at all. The more fanciful claim he yet reigns over Deadland in various nightmarish forms, while others indicate he died long ago as might any mortal. One thing is widely agreed upon, however; to speak too strongly in his defense has become near-universally considered idiocy at best.
