The History of Thalass so far

Kingdom of Vynamar

The Kingdom of Vynamar was the elven nation prior to the Great Flood. It was lost to the waters with only the capital of the kingdom, Dor-Lómin, surviving as a flying city.

Realm of Nargothrond

This was the largest and greatest of the Dwarf and Gnome realms. The capital of this realm was Nargothrond itself. This civilization was the center point of many technological innovations. While the realm is no more its spirit is still persevering through its former capital, Nargothrond, which was able to survive the Great Flood with quick ingenuity.

Beleriand Empire

This was the first Empire to form in Thalass long before the Great Flood. It formed in the wake of the war between the gods. Over time it grew to the largest military focused empire to ever exist in Thlass. However, infighting and civil war eventually split the empire in three. The three factions that the empire split into were, Doriath, Lothlann, and Belegos.

Doriath, Lothlann and Belegos

These are the three major civilizations that rose from the splitting of Beleriand. They lasted and vied for power of the lands all the way up till The Great Flood at which point they were all wiped out. Each had its own prominent focus. Belegos continued in the militaristic tradition of its ancestor Beleriand. Doriath focused its efforts on arcane research and partnered closely with Hithlum. Finally Lothlann focused mostly internally on philosophy and the preservation of peace across the land not wishing to see major war and strife like during the collapse of Beleriand.

Current Species & Cultures

Juta Empire

The Juta Empire can trace its roots back to the Beleriand Empire, though that history is all but lost. When the Gerat Flood occurred those of the Belegos civilization that survived went on to found the Juta Empire on the Isle of Crita, its capital being the city Educas. This new Empire put a major focus on military might even expanding its control over the cities of Nargothrond and Hithlum that saw their realms vanish in the flood.

Taza Trading Company

Operating out of its capital of Nesa, the Taza Trading Company is the largest trade group in all of Thalass. Their only competition being the Juta Empire. Similar to the Empire there are other cities that fall under the influence of the Trading Company, however not due to a military presences but instead due to trade agreements. Those other cities being, Merrthis and Tsunatia.

Dor-Lómin

The elven city of Dor-Lómin is one of two surface based cities that survived the Great Flood. Before the waters reached the city the Conclave of Chanters gathered at the city center and with their communal chanting cast a spell on the city lifting it to the sky where it now flies from location to location.

Hithlum

Self proclaimed as the oldest city in Thalass this mostly Dragonborn and Aarakocra city sits nested within the God Hand. It was this city that was saved by Bahamut's intervention at the time of the flood. It also holds the largest library from pre-flood time and the curators at the Library of Scirion ever look to expand their collections.

Nargothrond

The city of Nargothrond is the only piece of its former realm that made it through the Great Flood. Built into the Alabaster Mountains this city of Dwarves and Gnomes was able to save themselves by sealing the city off from the rushing waters. The people of Nargothrond devote almost all their time to developing technology. This has allowed the city to survive even when being sealed within a mountain.

Merrthis

One of the two underwater cities Merrthis is home to the Merrid people, as they are commonly referred to. The Merrid people are made of a mix of Kuo-Toa, Merfolk, and Merrow. Marrthis was founded shortly after the flood. The races that came together were ones that were generally ostracized prior but they saw the flood as their chance to make a new life for themselves.

Tsunatia

Like Merrthis, Tsunatia is the other underwater city. However, unlike Merrthis that was founded post flood, Tsunatia had existed prior to the flood. The Tsuna people are comprised of Water Genasi, Tritons, and Sea Elves. The general demeanor of the Tsuna people is an air of superiority. They view themselves as the superiors of Thalass due to their amphibious nature and the age of their culture. They also specifically despise the Merrid people seeing them as a gathering of monstrous races that pollute the waters.

Needs & Relations

Juta Empire

The Juta Empire while being militaristic at its core has shifted its focus to trade. This is due to the Isle of Crita being the largest source of formable land. The Empire's desire is to wrest full control of all trade in Thalass and spread their Empire. This has put them at odds with the Taza Trading Company, their main competition.

Taza Trading Company

The Trading Company similar to the Juta Empire also desires to grasp full control over all trade, although contrary to the Juta Empire they just wish for a trade monopoly and not to rule over all. Currently they have the two underwater cities, Merrthis and Tsunatia, aligned with them, but due to Juta's control over Nargothrond and Hithlum they have been unable to establish trade there only being able to trade directly within Educas.

Tsunatia

The people of Tsunatia themselves as the natural progression of humanity. They see the world being covered in water as a sign that they should be destined to rule all. However they keep this belief hidden and mostly come off as arrogant and pompous. They don't have a distaste for land dwelling races but do have a special hatred for the Merrid people viewing them as a pollution in their beautiful subaquatic world.

Merrthis

The Merrid are a relatively new people with their culture only having formed after the Great Flood. What they desire the most is to be accepted by the other cultures as an equally civilized group. Over the years they have seen progression with this but the Tsuna's distaste for them has led to growing tensions. The Tsuna take any chance they can to cut down public perception of the Merrid, even if it is fabricated by the Tsuna themselves. This has left the two groups on the edge of war.

Nargothrond

The people of Nargothrond only have one desire, innovation. They are pushed by their insatiable curiosity and delicate in invention. Outside of this they care very little. The grander schemes of the world are of no concern to the and their subsidiary nature to the Juta Empire doesn't concern them as long as the Empire continues to support their industry.

Hithlum

Those that live in Hithlum value knowledge and faith above all else. The great Library of Scirion is within Hithlum and the curators ever seek to add to the Halls of Knowledge. This one of the major desires of the people, to be able to go and find old lost text and artifacts from times before the flood. The other desire of Hithlum is to eventually seperate themselves from the Juta Empire, however they are not willing to go to war with a nation whose military is double theirs just for the chance of freedom.

Dor-Lómin

The people of Dor-Lómin don't have any grand desires like most of the other nations. The most that they hope for is to be left to their own and occasionally trading when they are near another city.
