Tourite

Tourite is the common term for the material of the meteorites that fall to Thaiterra. It interferes very strongly with human technology, and can even be toxic to humans in select conditions.
The original crew of the Fergana did not believe it to be a naturally occurring substance. It is found all throughout the Gairu-Lexene System, and interference from it is believed to be the reason that the ship crashed in the first place.
It's not common for tourite meteors to fall to the ground. When they do, they tend to disrupt human technology and cause a lot of problems.
Also, they may or may not actually be a kind of calcified ancient alien mines (or pieces of wrecked ships) that are extremely defunct and have been in space for a long time.
