Gnomes

Gnomes reach adulthood at the age of 30 and can live for up to about 200 years.   Gnomes originated in Andoria where they were taught about technology by the elves of the east. Their nimble fingers and keen minds were perfectly suited to the study of arcane-mechana and within a few millennia they had surpassed their tutors. Many believe (at least most Gnomes do) that it was they that first showed the elves that the people of Thaeria could be considered their equals.   Though they originated in Andoria they have no specific emotional attachment to it (except normal patriotism of those that still live there), having quickly developed methods of travel they pursued their curious natures around the continent and the wider world, and they now represent only a slightly greater portion of Andoria's population than they do anywhere else in Thaeria.   Though famed for their underground homes (indeed some villages in Andoria are still primarily built into hillsides and Valleys) they have long since left that stereotype behind, not that it bothers them particularly, they are prideful of traits like versatility and diversity and are equally able to live above or below ground.

Naming Conventions   Gnomes are said to love names, as a result it isn't unusual to meet a gnome with six or more!   At birth they get a different name from their mother, father, aunt(s), uncle(s), and clan elder, and that's just a start! After that, they begin to accrue nicknames or accomplishments over their life that stick to their ever-growing full name.   When interacting with any other gnomes, they love to introduce themselves with every name. They've learned this habit bothers humans and other races though, so with them they'll just stick to two or three.   To offer a new name to a gnome is considered an honour for the gnome, and will be accepted by the gnome if given by someone they respect.
