The Wardens

The Wardens, more formally known as the Custodes Veritatis ("Guardians of Truth"), are a specialised unit within Teutonia, dedicated to the study, identification, and analysis of supernatural threats.

They serve as advisors to the Primus on the battlefield and are an invaluable resource for both the military and magical councils.

The Wardens are not frontline warriors, but their work is crucial to ensuring that Teutonia's forces are well-prepared for the dangers they face. Whether in the midst of a battle, within the war camp, or among the warhost, The Wardens provide essential knowledge that guides strategic decisions and ensures the safety of the realm.

The Mission of The Wardens:

The Wardens are a vital asset to Teutonia’s defence. Their mission is to uncover, understand, and report on the supernatural threats that might endanger the realm.

The Arcanus forged The Wardens as a formidable force, designed to both defend Teutonia and lead proactive expeditions into the heart of its darkest threats. The Wardens report to the Arcanus as their immediate commander.

They operate across the battlefield, within the camp, and among the warhost, ensuring that every action taken by Teutonia’s forces is informed by the deepest understanding of the enemy.

The Wardens’ work is not about leading the charge, but about ensuring that every soldier, mage, and commander knows what they are up against and how to defeat it.

Structure

Reporting to the Arcanus and the Primus.

The Three Heads of The Wardens:

1. The Blade, aka the Hunter:
Role: Scout and Specialist
Background: The Blade is a skilled warrior and scout, an observer, with a deep understanding of the physical world and the creatures that inhabit it. They are responsible for gathering information on enemy forces, identifying weaknesses, and advising on the best course of action. The Blade’s expertise in natural lore and survival makes them the first point of contact when strange phenomena or unknown creatures are encountered. They do not engage directly in battle unless necessary; instead, they focus on gathering and analysing data to provide the Primus and the warhost with vital intelligence.

2. The Eye, aka the Sage:
Role: Arcane Analyst
Background: The Eye is an expert in the arcane, with a focus on understanding the magical aspects of any given threat. Their role is to analyse magical energies, decipher curses, and predict the movements of supernatural forces. In the heat of battle, The Eye might be seen casting spells to detect hidden enemies, identify or counteract magical influences. However, their primary duty is to gather and interpret arcane knowledge, advising the Arcanus and other leaders on the mystical threats.

3. The Quill, aka the Chronicler:
Role: Scholar and Archivist
Background: The Quill is the keeper of knowledge within The Wardens, responsible for maintaining detailed records of all encounters, discoveries, and research findings. They are also skilled in anatomy and biology, often performing autopsies on fallen creatures to better understand their nature and vulnerabilities. The Quill’s work is crucial for creating comprehensive reports that inform future strategies and preparations. In the camp, they can be found documenting the ongoing events, ensuring that every piece of information is preserved for Teutonia’s continued survival
