Starforged
When Nox, God of the Night Sky reawoke on the Mortal Plane, he chose to make this world his own. This created the Starforged: divine constructs, perpetually toeing the line between mortal and empty matter.
Origin
After Nox, God of the Night Sky tore worlds apart to stop the Titan Fellmoth, he had little choice but to rest. Yet in his rest, he was watching. Extending his consciousness across Tetraverium. He would awaken following the Demonic Cataclysm. Nox was determined to reclaim his rightful place on the Celestial Plane. It was only a matter of power to get there.Nox plucked stardust from the night sky and a dying star from the astral abyss. From these ingredients, he forged two children - the first Starforged. From Stardust, he formed Starchild. A willing and powerful servant who would speak, not listen. From the dying star, he made Starspawn. A thoughtful and serious servant who would listen, not speak. Nox’s children followed him without question, until he took a life to fuel his own rise to power. Following this first act of cruelty, his children spoke to one another. Starspawn questioned their father for killing the man, but Starchild would not listen. Only speak. She told their father what Starspawn had said. As punishment, Nox locked Starspawn beneath the Veritas Mountains.
In the ensuing years, Nox would struggle with his star children. After two thousand years, Starspawn would escape his prison, and continue to oppose him. This encouraged Nox to create a new child: a hulking brute named Emissary, who could not speak or listen. Only serve. Eventually, Nox’s cruelty caught up with him. His son Starspawn, wielding the power of the Blade of the Eternal Cosmos, imprisoned him in the sky for twelve years. Upon his escape, everything Nox had built had crumbled. He disappeared into darkness. And from this darkness, the world would slowly begin to see more and more star children coming to life.
Under the banner of the Sect of the Starcatchers, Nox created more Starforged. Each Starforged would be taught to serve him, instructed through rigorous training. All they would know is Nox. Then, they would be unleashed on the world, with the intention of gaining enough power to see Nox’s true goals come to pass.
Description
The Starforged of Tetraverium are intangible, alien creatures. Their bodies are built to serve a specific purpose, and thus range heavily in size and shape. Some stand at five feet tall and weigh 120 pounds. Others are hulking brutes, standing well over eight feet tall and weighing 300 pounds. Starforged cannot die of old age, and will live forever unless destroyed. Their skin is usually gray, blue, or pale white. Stardust twinkles in their skin. Their eyes shine like glowing stars. Stardust constructs, like bolts of energy or wings, usually surround them, especially if they wield magic.Socialization
The Starforged have never truly been socialized to Tetraverium. It’s estimated that no more than twelve hundred of the celestial constructs exist to this day. They are not considered a ‘lineage’ by most almanacs or dissertations of the culture and history of Tetraverium.Under the rule of Nox, the Starforged are given an express purpose. Each Starforged has a strength and a weakness: something they are exceptional at, but something they can never do. For instance, Starchild can speak but never listen. Another Starforged may be able to Heal but never Harm. These restrictions often leave them a fragment of a whole being. Many ask the question of whether or not a Starforged can ever learn to step beyond their innate, genetic weaknesses.
Most Starforged are raised with limited knowledge of the outside world. They rarely understand mortals, seeing them as either entirely below them, dangerous violent people, or the equivalent of animals. Starforged raised in Nox’s care are often subservient to him and his desires. Some can’t even comprehend the world without him. Most Starforged perceive themselves as perfect. After all, they were created by Nox. If they are not perfect, what does that say about him?
Living in Tetraverium
As most Starforged were created within the last two centuries, few truly “live” in Tetraverium. Most lurk with the rest of the Sect of the Starcatchers, far beneath Gierelend, plotting alongside their master. Others are engaged on quests in the service of Nox, executing upon specific goals for his benefit. Others still have been unleashed on the world, forced to live up to the power Starspawn once attained. While most Starforged remain under Nox’s thumb, there are some who have managed to break from their prior conditioning. These Starforged, for whatever reason, have chosen to defect from his army. They are often perpetually burdened with feelings of loneliness and isolation. They struggle with their removal from their natural hierarchy. Worse, they are constantly hounded by Nox, who despises the idea of one of his own creations loose without his dominion.
Subraces
There are two Starforged Subraces: Warriors and Astrologers. This depends on the purpose they were created for. Warriors tend to be bulkier, larger, and hulkling. They resemble apes more than other mortals. Astrologers are more lilith and thin. They were created to master the arcane, and have a natural affinity for it.Mechanics
