Those from Below

Pelagic nightmares made all too real

Strange reports sound from a few isolated costal cities, where strange flopping fish like monstrosities emerge form the waves to enact bloody slaughters of the surface dwellers. Cities are burned, many driven mad by horrible nightmares or even seeming to drown with their lungs filling with sea water, even when on dry land or many miles from the ocean. Most survivors are dragged into the sea, wailing and screaming, as those who escape babble madly about "a great and hateful fish god". No one can truly say what these creatures are, but what is known is that they seek to kill all of those races who live on the surface. There can be no peace with Those From Below, only battle can hope to stem their tide of flopping, pulsating madness...

Structure

Organization is entirely unknown, however it has been observed that they possess some form of primitive religion, and it appears their "priests" are seen as spiritual and literal leaders of a sort.

Culture

Unknown, but signs of primitive culture exist, from houses to strange writings on walls in a language unknown to the surface world.

Public Agenda

The desecration of the surface world and its inhabitants.

Assets

Their numbers are many, for it seems that they reproduce by spreading their vile curse to others by biting victims and other methods of ritual transformation, and over the course of a few short weeks, the infected individual goes insane as their body morphs into one of the fishfolk. They then go into the ocean to unite with their brethren.   Those From Below also have cults in their name, who seek to intermingle and sire new fishmen and to also gain the incredible riches from the fishmen, for they gift their cults powers and jewels of the most magnificent grandeur. These cults stay close to costal communities and it is said those who do not pay tithe to the sea never live to see their insolence repeated.

History

Entirely unknown, some theorize they have always been there, waiting beneath the waves, being disturbed from their slumber and now seek to get revenge on the world for the life on the land.

Religion

The fishfolk seem to worship a strange entity known as Daolku. His image is that of a massive seafolk monstrosity, and it is said that one day he will return all life to its rightful place, below the waves of the sea, which the seafolk and their cults refer to as Mother Ocean.

Foreign Relations

Those From Below seek to destroy all who oppose them, that being the surface world. However they have had run ins with other sea dwelling races, and these races collectively know them as "Dagosians". The other sea races live in fear of their insidious ways, and some of the more learned scholars amongst the sea faring races wonder if perhaps they were the great demons from deep in the depths of the ocean that are mentioned in multiple historical accounts.
