The Weeping Plague
Transmission & Vectors
Airborne virus and being within close contact of an infected individual or infected fluids such as blood, spit, etc.
Most bizarrely, it is rumored that a vampire was somehow able to contract the virus and die. While this has never been confirmed, it has caused a panic in the midnight royalty as if true then the virus will not only be deadly to nearly all humanoids, but also the undead
Symptoms
Fever, sweating, headache, feelings of weakness, delirium, seizures, dehydration, feeling lack of air and difficulty breathing, agonizingly painful pustule like growth on the skin that eventually pop and release a sickly black ooze that then begins to rot the skin, "bleeding" from the eyes
Treatment
There is a antidote that exists, however the Lacrimae Doctore jelously guard the recipe for this antitode so that they may turn a profit selling the antidote to the needy. Afterall, there is no price to high for ones life, and the sick will pay any price if it means surviving the virus
Prognosis
First a infected creature will feel lightheaded and catch a fever, but rapidly this will turn into difficulty breathing, weakness, delirium, and seizures. After this, the infected individual will begin coughing up blood mixed with this black liquid like substance and develop dark greenish pustules. Once the disease reaches this stage, the mortality rate for untreated individuals reaches 100%. These pustules will then burst and leak out this black ooze that then begins to literally rot the skin in a fashion similar to the wasting sickness. The final stage of the virus is when a combined effort of the lungs finally beginning to shut down completely and the skin rotting even more but the most horrifying effect of this stage is the eyes begin to "weep" a mixture of blood and the black liquid, thus earning its name, after this the patient dies a very painful and slow death
Sequela
Survivors of the virus will usually from then on have watery eyes and itchiness and pain around the body, some extreme patients may be crippled for the rest of their natural life and require mobility assistance. Others may keep a faint cough
Prevention
Wearing protective face gear and covering anything that could lead inside your body such as eyes, mouth, nose, etc. Staying away from any who might be suspected of being infected with the virus. Burning the corpses of the sick and not drinking or touching any liquids that might be contaminated with infected fluids
Epidemiology
The virus though magical has been observed to spread through close contact in the air around an infected individual and also being linked to any fluids which may have been contaminated with any bodily fluids from an infected individual
History
No one knows quite how the virus came to be, all that is known is it is suspected to have started in the port city of Ilthenur in the Deadlands and really picked up when it reached the lands of Diosia. Due to being a massive center of trade, merchants began to spread the disease unknowingly and by the time symptoms and deaths started to occur, it was too late.
Currently the disease resides in the outer settlements of Ashenfled, a port city in Neundorf (suspected more to come), a couple of key cities and areas in Diosia, along the costal cities of the Deadlands, a wealthy trade city in Tajir, and even as far as some of the city states in Ardità, where a few cases have begun to arise
Cultural Reception
The Weeping Plague has rapidly begun to worry many people through out the world for a virus of this caliber and fatality rate has never been seen before, not even the vampires are entirely safe from the virus and as such it has caused most of the worlds denizens to become absolutely panicked by this virus, with entire sections of cities being closed off and quarantined if a single case is found. This has also led to the Lacrimae Doctore being formed, a group of plague doctors who travel the world when word of cases crop up to cure the sick. However this is what their official creed reads, in actuality they sometimes like to preform experiments on the sick to better understand the virus, and while they do have an antidote, it is not only a painful process that could potential horribly scar the patient but one that they don't give out unless paid an exorbitant price or costly favors or more viler bargains
