The Seventh Crusade, "The Northern War"
Retaliation for the Dread Raids of the Northmen
The Conflict
Prelude
The Age of the Axe had come for the continent of Nilush, and many would soon fear the dreaded sight of Longships of Vikingir Revers. Such sights became so common that many costal cities were wholly barren. Such times led to many to look for the Church to defend them. While slow to act at first, it was decided by one Pope Philip the Third that a retalitory war was to be waged by the godly folk of the Flame. As such, a Crusade was called, started the Seventh Crusade.
Deployment
Sailing up from Ashenfeld and Neundorf, the crusaders would land first at both the South Clans and the Aldinnheimr mainland.
While not a wholly united force at the time, the Northmen would quickly unite after initial skirmishes, and begin to put up stiff resistance
Battlefield
Aldinnheimr
Conditions
Due to the cold weather of the continent, the war would take its toll on the crusaders, while the Northmen were greatly accustomed to warfare in their snowy realm. This combined with the ferocious nature of the Vikingir led to fighting to be bitter and vicious for most of the war.
The Engagement
While seeing initial success at first, progress would stall as the Vikingir would harry the crusaders at every step. This led to progress being slow as the crusaders had to slowly advance around the land while burning and raiding the villages they came across, and the Vikingir displaying the corpses of crusaders upon trees and reportedly filled a river entirely with the severed heads of the crusaders. After 2 years, the Church decided that the Crusade would be declared over, as they have made the point stick after slaying many Vikingir, not to mention the war funds beginning to dip into the red.
Outcome
A slight economic boost to the Church was gained after the crusaders came back with all the loot they took from their enemies. Besides that, the people were mostly soothed as the Church used this to show that these Northmen weren't immune to the power of the Flame.
Aftermath
Though this would slightly lower the amount of raids going out into the world, they didn't fully end them, as while many Northmen died in this crusade, many more survived.
