The Mowa Kingdom
Structure
The organization is similar to many other feudal societies, however when it comes to village level, a village elder is chosen to be both representative and spiritual leader for the town. On a family level, the family also operates as a mini kingdom, with a patriarch/matriarch being the parents and the children as workers and advisors.
Culture
The culture of the Mowa can be broken down into 3 distinct culturally values: Ancestor worship, Family, and Harmony. The ancestors are to be respected and valued to the extreme. Every action is supposed to be in respect and the name of ones ancestors. Shaming them is considered one of the greatest sins a Mowan can commit. Family is also important, in where one is considered bound to their family. Family is as strong as steel, and blood is iron. One must stand by ones family, lest he have no moral compass. Finally, Harmony is a cornerstone of the Mowa. One must be in constant harmony lest they end up like the great twins, and suffer for it. Every choice must have an equal and opposite reaction, and one must take it in stride.
Riding is also a important tot he Mowan. One must be able to ride at a young age, and many of the Mowan ride either great horses or rhinos and elephants. This has led to them being deadly riders in war, and it is considered that their mounts bond with their riders. As that happens if their rider dies before their mount, their mount goes into a deep depression and soon die after a month of mourning. This connection to their mount also signifies their spiritual bond with the land itself, as they seek to honor the land they tread in many different ways.
History
The history of the Mowa Kingdom is ancient, far more ancient than many may expect. Like their Tajiran neighbors, they were once part of the many tribal groups that was kicked out of their homeland by the ancient Shezarkai Kingdom. Unlike the Tajir, they would move south, traveling in nightmarishly harsh conditions until eventually, they would reach the Khoyna mountains. They would travel and reach the Sularan Plains in time to escape the Sun Death. From there they would settle and begin to form their society.
They would build their society as many of the tribes would fight one another until finally, one woman would unite the peoples under one banner. She was named Malika and she would soon conquer all of the tribes using terrifying effective cavalry tactics. From this she would found the Mowa Kingdom, named after her tribe, in what is theorized to be around 800EC. The Mowa Kingdom would grow into a cultural and financial powerhouse, as it began to open up dangerous but wealthy trade lanes with some of the Tajiran City States. This would result in the Mowa kingdom being a horrendously wealthy nation even compared to the Tajir Sultanate. However, they would also make a name for themselves years later as they would raid city states they had not been in trade relations with, making themselves known as fierce cavalry riders. They would raid the Bay't Tajiran the most, the two warrior peoples waging many wars.
However, around the year 3000EC a great calamity would befall the Mowa Kingdom, as suddenly many of their witchdoctors and soothsayers would go mad and would kill many townspeople before running away into the wilderness. They would form a dark cabal of wizards and cultists chanting of the death of the sun, and bringing about a new great deity to kill the sun for good. Even to this day, the Mowa now must deal with foreign invasion, and threats from within as they must purge these cultists in the name of harmony and balance.
Demography and Population
The Mowan are made up of a large mix of races, including the Leonin who also inhabit the plains they reside in.
Religion
The religion of the Mowan people is one based around the concept of harmony and balance. They believe that every being is made up of a combination of complementary opposites, in where one must used rituals to remain in balance. The Key deities of the people are the Nakko/Nubo, and the goddess of the sky named Ashari. It is said that the Nakko and Nubo twins would be born from Ashari, and from that they would make the worlds. However, the twins would split off into 2 extra beings, and begin to go mad from the imbalance. To safe all existence, Ashari would kill and dismember the twins, and scatter their limbs across the universe. Some of these limbs would land in the world of Tertara, and shrines are built atop where they landed.
The religion is based around maintaining harmony of ones spirt. to do this a group in the Mowan society named the Order of Masks act as spiritual catalysts who help move spirt energy upon ones death into a descendent of the same lineage, and help keep the harmony of the spirit balanced. They also believe in spirits inhabiting the world, with an invisible force influencing the way each and every being lives. These spirits can be communicated with and can either grant power and harmony, or chaos and death depending on which spirit it is.
Foreign Relations
Relations are as complex as most nations. With Tajir it depends on which city state they are dealing with, but at the moment the wider Tajiran Sultanate is not at war with the Mowa. With the Halfling riders to the west they mainly just skirmish one another for resources near the mountain ranges. With societies outside of Carall, not many have much interaction, however curiously a strange common ground has been found with he brave and ferocious Mowan Riders, and the knightly nation of Vebastonne, who themselves understand the honorable tradition of mounted combat. However due to the almost disgusting level of wealth, the Mowan people have recently been competing with the Tajiran and Cataian peoples in the global trade lanes, with many traders and mercenaries braving the horrendously dangerous trip to the Mowan lands for the cities of jewels.
