The Legend of Arnould Regnault and Novanna Greer

A tale of two companions throughout the ages

Summary

One of the greatest wars had befallen the Vestoni. The War of Green saw the last great war the orc tribes had raged against the people of the world, and a truly costly one for both sides involved. But while many of the orcs would go through a revelation, many tribes remained bitter and hateful, and sought to destroy the world once again, in time. Enter the young knight Arnould Regnault, but a newly knighted lad and all the hot headed noble many new knights show themselves as. He was eager to prove his worth, for he was the middle child in his noble family, owed nothing for his older brother would inherit the land their mother and father owned. He needed to prove himself to be owed anything, and so he rode off into the night with nary a plan other than to go out and find a worthy deed to be done. He would travel into the Viercon forest, and though he would find beasts to slay, nothing truly worthy to prove himself, for he was of the dukedom of Marrroux, the beast-slayers of Vebastonne.    That was when he would encounter Novanna Greer one fateful night. Novanna Greer was a Fire elf, or Vashka, and was exiled from her people for a crime she didn't commit. Though she did not trust Arnould at first, they would be assailed by goblins and orcs before they could come to blows, and so fought back to back valiantly against the greenskins. After the battle they would discover plans on one of the orcs that unveiled a plot to take the kingdom by surprise and from there, launch attacks against the elven island of Iadith. Deciding to work together, Arnould and Novanna would travel deep into the forest, and fight against near impossible odds until eventually slaying the orc chieftain Lugrub the Bloodmaker in a truly incredible battle. Once defeated, they would return to Arnoulds home and he would be showered with awards, but would respectfully decline an offer to become the royal guard of the castle. He had learned to appreciate Novanna and her company, and vowed to go wherever she went, and she would vow to always have his back. So they would ride out, Arnould giving up his home, but leaving a hero, and someone who finally wasn't alone anymore.   Since then the two have fought an almost staggering number of threats and dangers, from liches, giants, dragons, more orcs, and many many more. Eventually clearing the name of Novanna, the two would become heros amongst both the Fire elves and the Vestoni. Their adventures have brought them all over the world, even to the other planes as they had traveled to the Wyld Realm to slay a great monster. It is said they fight their still and are poised to return any day now, for time flows differently in the Wyld Realm. So in truth, the legend of Arnould and Novanna is a tale not truly over with, for many more adventures await.

Spread

This myth has mainly spread amongst the Vestoni people and the elves of Iadith, particularly the Fire Elves for obvious reasons. It is a favorite story to tell in plays and in bedtime stories, albeit the latter makes for a rather long bedtime story if told in full.

Cultural Reception

The tales of the two heroes spread like wildfire across the lands, and become a favorite tale of the Vestoni people. It also would eventually become a favored tale among the Vashkalian elves, who unlike their other elven kindred on the island of Iadith look with a great degree of respect for the Vestoni people, even going so far as to say they are worth just as much as any other elf. This has not only given the two peoples a shared enjoyment, but also influenced both in many ways, for some Vestonian knights adorn the armor and colors of the Vashkalian sun, as a sign of great honor and respect, adn the Vashkalian elves eventually adopted a accent that mixed both their own tounge and the Vestonian accent. This also leads to Vebastonne to be a popular place for Vashka elves to travel to and are typically greeted with as much kindness as any other Vestoni citizen.

In Literature

It has become a popular tome that is sold amongst the land, and sometimes makes its way outside of Vebastonne or Iadith, though the high elves of Iadith have taken to suppressing the ownership of the tale, however the Mountain of Flame remains a safe place for the tome as the high elves wouldn't dare disrespect the literal thousands of years of treaties and bonds they have with their Vashka kindred, for now at least.

In Art

A few famous works exist that depict many of their great adventures together, with the most famous being the one where they fought within a section of the Viercon Forest known as the Tola Thicket, against a massive horde of rampaging orcs back to back
