The Fallen Vunao Kingdom

In truth, little is known about the Vunao Kingdom, as sadly much of the historical texts have been lost to time, however some knowledge does exist.   The Kingdom itself was a diverse blend of tribes that managed to unite together into one kingdom. It is said that they united in a ruin from the long dead Ishtar Empire, somewhere deep in the forests of the land. This led to the Kingdom becoming a primarily trade focused empire, with the land being rich in mineral wealth and gold. They were styled as a feudal monarchy for most of their existence, but it is thought that near the end of its reign it reformed into a constitutional monarchy. The kingdom also boasted some of the best scientific schools in Nilush, only being beaten out by Tajir, and was home to some of the best and brightest of the continent. This only makes their downfall all the more tragic.   The true reason for the fall is known by precious few, for years of religious dogma have taught that the Deadlands are but a sort of "blight" of heretical evil daring to defy the Flame and his most holy light. In truth the fall was all the more tragic, for simple greed is what caused its fall. It is said that the ruler and council wanted to find a way to make the crops "hyper-fertile" and thus make the Vunao the dominant agricultural nation in the world. This would effectively beat out both Neundorf and Vebastonne as agricultural giants, and thus earn their crops a premium price. A strange druid would come to them, offering them their wish if they but provide him the materials. Blinded by greed, the council accepted, and gave the strange man what he needed.    It is believed that this hooded man was a vampire, for while vampires had always existed in the Vunao Kingdom, they were unknown, thought of as children's fairytales. However, they proved all too real when after druids helped make the spell get cast, the hooded man apparently deliberately sabotaged or tricked the druids into causing the spell to go out of control. The plant life grew quickly, far too quickly, and effectively swallowed the land. Supernatural beasts surged from the forests and butchered across the kingdom, and few villages managed to survive. The capital was reduced to literal nothingness, as the arcane energies led to a massive explosion the likes of which the world has yet to see again. The land simply turned to chaos after that, as soon nearly every tree had corpses hanging from it, brigands and warlords tried to survive, but were picked off by vampires and other creatures. In the end, they got their wish, as their dead bodies now fertilized the ground. Attempts to colonize it before the Crusade of Light have always failed utterly, with entire expiations simply vanishing, and now that the Crusade of Light has passed, the Midnight Aristocracy officially rules the Crypt Kingdoms and the Deadlands. So it is, that nightmares were made all too real.
