The Divining Cult of Itarr
Fate, an always contentious and oft debated principal of existence. Fate takes upon many forms, many doors to many paths, and many argue about how rigidly fate is formed. For some, fate is fluid, to others fate is a childish explanation of the world. However, there are those that would seek to understand more than what is simply before them. The past has already been discovered, but the future is unknown and alien to the mortal mind. Thus, the gazes of blind eyes turns to those in the Divining Cult of Itarr, one of the lesser branches of the Light Pantheon, and an endangered one at that.
Their status in truth has always been dubious at the best of times. Their origins lie in the many tribal shamans that scryed into the future of the world. This would evolve as Ashenfeld was founded into prophesizing and doom saying, taking to the streets to give their holy predictions to the masses. At first, they were suppressed or simply ignored by the newly born Church of the Flame, but specifically one event in particular made them take notice. Many began telling of a time when demons would emerge from a tear in reality, and just 3 years later in the year 1940EC, the infamous Third Crusade would rage as demons fought to scour the land. The oddly accurate predictions of these disorganized diviners would gain the attention of the church after the crusade, especially since wizards practicing divination magic did not foresee the Third Crusade. No one is entirely sure what exactly happened, but what is known as soon after establishing dialogues with these cults, they were brought into line as the newly blessed Divining Cults of Itarr, with Itarr joining the Light Pantheon as the Goddess of Fate and Destiny.
In truth, this was not a smooth transition, as all the clerics would argue and bicker constantly over which destiny was truth and which was falsehoods, and many outside the order debated on if they were simply divination wizards pretending to be some "holy, divine order" to escape the ire of the Witch Hunters. While they have provided services for the land, in truth they were always a minor branch at best, and now it has gotten even worse. Faith in Itarr has steadily dropped ever since around the year 3900EC, and the most recent spike in disbelief is thanks to the failed Crusade of Light. It was prophecy shouted out by Itarrite cultists that convinced the church of the success of the crusade, and the Pureborn Hero. While they were technically correct about the Pureborn Hero being blessed by the gods, what happened during the crusade can hardly be counted as victory. This has led to the church to quietly undermine their authority out of spite, and many in the public view these cultists as little better than charlatans. Due to this, what few divining cults that do exist are small cabals that keep to themselves and rarely leave their abodes. If this continues, likely Itarr will simply fade into obscurity and unbelief, if she was even a real goddess to begin with at all/
Priesthood
The priesthood typically wears white flowing robes, and reguarly wears blindfolds over their eyes or other sorts of covering garments. They do this to blind themselves to the present so that their senses are fully tuned to the future. Some take this to more extreme degrees and ritually blind themselves, but this is not required. Many in the priesthood are more scribes and scholars than priest, and so daily pray is seen as not strictly necessary. Due to the "countless cruel destinies" they have born witness too, many know the priests to be cynical, anti-social, and in some cases nihilistic.
