The Cult of the Yellow Lord

Divine Origins

The specific origins of the cult have been lost to time, and defy any accurate record. The cult maintains that it has existed since the dawn of civilization, but these claims have not been confirmed. However most scholars agree that they originated from the West, specifically from the lands of Catai. This is known due to the prevalence of the cult being more strong in Catai, and they have only recently begun spreading in the lands of Nilush to the east. This is also known due to what little history is known detailing fighting in the mountains of Catai. Other than that, the only real thing that is known of their origins is supposedly their god whispered to them via signs hidden amongst everyday objects.

Cosmological Views

The cult holds that while their god didn't make the world, it did create the ever chaotic nature of life to be explored by nature and the people that live in it everyday. He has hidden signs of himself amongst everyday objects, only able to be seen by those most faithful or those not blind by false beliefs. This sign is known as the Yellow Sign, and it is said to drive those mad who witness it, though the cult believes it is the path to true enlightenment.

Tenets of Faith

Unlike many cults, the Cult of the Yellow Lord have little tenants besides simply: recognizing that the nature of life is chaos, and that chaos and decadence must reign in one's life. This is due to the ever chaotic nature of their god they worship, whatever it truly is...

Ethics

While they preach about chaos and decadence, in truth they aren't the most dangerous of the cults. That being said, some religious scholars are worried that some previous acts of destruction and terror thought done by unrelated groups, may in fact have been committed by the Cult of the Yellow Lord, which would make them an actually highly dangerous group indeed. Whatever the case, it is said that they battle strange "reality defying forms and shapes" within the mountains of Orleia and more recently Nilush, which has not been elaborated on or confirmed at all.

Worship

Primarily believed to be based around artistic forms of their god, and trying to subtly spread the word of the yellow lord to those who's minds are open enough to accept this being into their minds.

Priesthood

The cult recruits from any walk of life, from high up politicians to the lowliest street rats, none are too far away to be loved by their god in his yellow robes. The exact initiation ritual is a closely guarded secret, but it is common for members to wear yellow in some way to show their devotion. They also hide the symbol of their god in their clothing, and while this would sound like it would be an easy way to identify them, the symbol seems to defy logic and be invisible to those not aware of their god. It should also be noted that the cultists all possess at least some artistic outlet, whether it be casual playing of musical instruments or elaborate paintings.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The cult is curious in that they aren't as organized as the name suggests. It is said most of the members only meet up every now and then, when their lord calls to them to come together through vague signs. When they do meet up, its to coordinate their schemes, whatever those may be. Afterward they largely scatter, though they sometimes form small enclaves hidden in plain looking buildings and taverns.   While they are without a doubt a heathen cult of pagans and vile men and woman, the Church of the Flame seems to be unsure of their exact approach to them. While many would love nothing more than to burn them upon pyres, this is largely due to misunderstanding their god (who the cult sometimes refers to as Xell're) as being a different name for Lilith the Arch-Succubus, being decadence are both apart of their domains. However this is argued by religious scholars, and this disagreement allows the cult to remain under the radar. Over in the lands of Orliea, Catai has recently been suppressed any religion besides that of the Jade Empress, but this cult has been able to largely remain hidden for the most part.
